Next big GPU launch?

It seems to me that since the surprise launch of The Titan XP the rumors are running dry for the next batch of cards, we didn't hear much recently about Vega (nothing new in more than a month or so) and nVidia is pretty calm, launching lower end cards like GTX 950.

It's much the same for the CPU scene, we have some supposed benchmarks for Zen but nothing more.

At this point do you expect any new big releases (info/launch) in 2016?

The GTX 1050 is coming in a few weeks. Other than that, I doubt we will see a 1080 TI. I'm guessing Nvidia will refresh the entire Pascal lineup with rebadges / faster memory / different GPC-enabled configurations around the time that Vega launches to steal any of AMD's potential thunder.

I guess vega 10 would be the biggest release and we will see if AMD can push enough of them out before the holiday shopping to make to matter.

Otherwise it looks like sometime in H1 2017, probably Q2, will be vega 11 and probably the time for when nvidia to release their ti version if they plan on making one to compete against it but there is no rush for them to do so until amd has something to pressure the high market with their gpu's.

Last I had checked vega 10 is due out late this year "hopefully" while vega 11 is out in h1 of 2017 and granted vega 10 is probably around gtx 1070ish region in power or between that and 1080 a lot of people care more about vega 11.

The C993xx card is priced very high compared to the Polaris 10(75k to 27-30k) and they also underwent RRA certification in April.

There is also the recent shipping of D02702 card which is priced even higher and might be the D version of C993xx card's chip.

Besides all this, there was a HBM presentation that mentioned a 14nm product release at end of september and very likely a Vega chip.

Vega isn't happening this year. AMD said three GPUs this year and they have all been released (460-470-480).

Bro, AMD is telling investors that Vega isn't coming until the first half of 2017. no chance that it launches this year, just like I and others have been trying to tell people for a long time. The stuff about Vega coming out in October was basically just wishful on internet forums from people who probably don't have actual sources.

That slide says that Vega in enthusiast market would be in H1 2017. Vega has two chips just like Polaris and all the cards you'd get from them don't necessarily have to be in the enthusiast market.

I think nVidia will withold a 1080 Ti / non-Titan GP102 until AMD is ready to launch Vega and use it to spoil the release just like they did with the 980 Ti for the Fury X. So I'd expect h1 2017 to have some interesting stuff happening

In their manufacturing side they would have to keep track of this third die with portions laser cut in order to make the 470. I'd guess that's how they got to 3.

Exactly. A GPU isn't a die, it's a product.

GPU is a die - AMD talks about GPU as a die in all technical docs (ISA, whitepapers, etc.)

Yes, and a Polaris 10 die which has been laser cut results in a third die SKU e.g. GPU. If they restricted shaders via Firmware like how they used to do it - then they'd only have 2 GPUs and 2 SKUs. You wouldn't have to keep your 470 dies separate from your 480 dies. This is how 480 8GB vs 480 4GB works - the die can be the same yet there are 2 cards that result. For the 470, it needs a physically different die. Thus the third GPU

VEGA is on track as we said for first half of '17 to attack in that high-end of the market, in that highly performance enthusiast end of the market.

That is as official as it gets, they can't lie, they would be sued.
