iPhone 4S is the winner of this generation

4S is last generation. If it would have shipped based on Apple's regular schedule it would be nearly a year old at this point. It's a good phone, but I wouldn't lump it in with all of the newer models from other manufacturers. If I had to draw a line in the sand, I would probably say that the generation started with the Droid RAZR and Galaxy Nexus.

I guess I'm more curious about the performance of the device. Physically, I would agree that it's not as attractive as HTC's new flagship phone, but as most people will probably use a case, it doesn't matter much. The screen size is getting a little out of hand though. I'm not sure if it could be comfortably used with one hand.

The camera features looked nice, but I'd want to see an IQ comparison against other phones before passing further judgement. Will also be curious to see how the SoCs stack up against each other and what real-world battery life looks like.

There's already some benchmarks out. I think engadget.

So far. But the Sony Xperia GX has yet to make its entrance. Also, has Motorola announced their flagship phone yet?

If you care about the Xperia you are probably the only one, Sony has never been a serious competitor when it comes to Android phones.

I would personally put the SGS3 above the One X provided it has the Exynos 4412, if they are both Krait powered I would say they are about equal.

Maybe we will get lucky and the next Galaxy Note will get the Exynos 5250 and a Plus screen.

Ripped from HowardForums

I was fortunate enough to have some hands-on time with the Galaxy S III earlier today. Here are my first impressions:

Size-wise the S III is very similar to the One X but slightly longer without a camera bulge. The screen is a 4.8” Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280x720. Upon closer inspection the screen has a pentile matrix. Touchwiz has a fairly thick font - it’s quite flattering so the pentile matrix isn’t as noticeable.

It’s available in 2 colors: metallic White or Blue. There’s a thick clear coat so it looks metal but feels like plastic. Even the beta unit I was handling was very solid.

Compared to the HTC One X there are 2 extra features: a microSDXC card slot (up to 64GB) and a removable battery. The battery is ‘over 2000 mAh’.

On the software side there are a couple of neat tricks:

The Samsung native video player has picture-in-picture. You can drag and position the video so that you can watch it while you’re doing something else.

There’s more motion sensing capabilities. You can unlock the screen by pressing the display and moving it towards you. You can also launch the camera from the lock screen by pressing the display and rotating the phone. When you’re viewing a phone number you can make the call by raising it to your ear.

The front-facing camera watches your eyes. If it sees your eyes the screen won’t shut off.

WiFi direct is much easier to use using S-Beam. It uses NFC to setup the transfer and then uses WiFi direct to do the actual transferring.

It will be available this Summer.

I’ll post more first impressions shortly.

Actually I'm not the only one. I love Sony's designs and they are indeed getting serious about phones, more so considering they recently bought out Ericsson... Look up the GX, it has monster specs. Add Sony's industrial design and I'm game.

Keep telling yourself that. The GS3 will easily outsell the GX by a massive margin, when it comes to Android Sony is closer to Huwaeii than they are to Samsung.

Engadget didn't have SunSpider results and didn't run BrowserMark at all, but they both have Quadrant results. That differ by a fairly significant amount. What's up with that?
It's not the Krait S4 HTC One X.

I have no problem with that. Some people actually want a phone that leads rather than follow in the design and technology department. While you're settling for a cheap, plasticky Korean iPhone knockoff, I'll have my Sony superphone. You enjoy yours and I'll enjoy mine and we'll both be happy:thumbsup:

When has a Sony Android phone ever been a technology leader? I am sure they seem bleeding edge compared to your 7 year old WinMo phone but Samsung has been the performance leader on Android for multiple generations now.

Thing with that is if Sony decides to screw you with no updates. You'll have less of a homebrew community to back you.

When was the last time you bought a Sony phone? K750i? All of the Xperia phones (except for Ray) have been cheap and plasticky.

Sony has excellent cameras and screens. They don't make processors and I'm not sure what other components they make. The S-LCDs in the current Xperia S and HTC One X are from Sony. They're getting serious and I'm looking forward to the product of their renewed focus on phones

The design of the Xperia S is nice but the innards need work. That's where the GX comes in. Can't wait. I hope I'm not disappointed like so many Samesung fans were today:sneaky:

why are people disappointed?>

- ugly fake brushed metal design
- ugly shape (not a fan of the oval/egg shaped casing)
- same old Mali 400 GPU
- pentile screen
- overall, just not as big of a deal as the Galaxy S2 was. GS2 was a huge leap over the competition. GS3 is basically on par with the HTC One X, which is already available.

so i take it you don't like the look of the Gnex either? as it looks almost exactly the same

TBH the only ugly thing about is is samsungs stupid home button,

The GNex has that curve as well as no faux brushed metal.

They don't look the same anymore than the iPhone and the Galaxy S look the same.

I think the Gnex looks much better. It's not as rounded, and there's something nice about the plain black front with no buttons/logos/etc. Plus it doesn't have that cheesy fake brushed metal.
