Just shut up and drop a Chevy V8 into it.
Best part is that the E36 M3 had this huge iron I6 in it, iirc. WWwwaaayy to heavy for 240 hp. You could drop a massive aluminum V8 in, save 80-120 pounds and fly like the devil. Amazing.
I do not think that is true with the new M3's though. =]
Dude an M3 CSL would make any Chevy go hide. M3 CSL
At least you can drive a Corvette in the rain, through hot weather since it has an A/C, and there's actually music to listen to when you're driving.
Even on Top Gear, the CTS-V pwned the Audi S4 which in turn pwned the M3..though it was the non CSL version.. I imagine the V and CSL would be pretty close on a track.
which s4 'pwns' an m3...i'm curious...cause i dont recall any
rs4 on the other hand

Audi S4 1.30.9

BMW M3 1.31.8
Even the regular regular Corvette dominates the CSL..1.26.8 to 1.28.0

That, in turn, is the dumbest assertion that ever came out of a BMW enthusiast, period.

How much horsepower do you really need for a road car?
A fraction of them ever see the race track, yet everyone argues constantly about which car has more power.

Allright Mr Smaty Pants you know that the same engine led to the Mclaren F1 1000 HP car right? And that the 850 CSI was tuned down by BMW because there wasn't a market for the car to be any more powerful, and as a member stated above not all the horsepower in a car is really taken advantage of , and therefor I don't see whats the problem on the 850 CSI it has much HP than a lot of ppl might need, got the hint ?
So for your typical 3000lb car, you would need at least 750bhp?Originally posted by: Apex

Me? I'll be happy with one hp (crank) pulling every 4.0 lbs of car. I'm easy to please though. As long as it's under 5 lbs per hp, I'll be reasonably satisfied.

There never was a 100 bhp McLaren. The McLaren F1 road car (which I assume is what you're referring to) has 627 bhp. It does indeed share the same engine block with the 850CSi, but the engine puts out only 372 bhp in the 850, and the car weighs more than 4200 pounds.
Just to be clear, I have always liked the 850, and I apologize if I was unnecessarily snide. The 850 is, though, IMO, a rather flabby, overpriced GT car, which doesn't really embody the BMW tradition. To me, the E46 M3 is probably the best manifestation of what BMW is really about: straight-six, manual transmission, handsome, purposeful body, reasonable weight, and tremendous handling and overall performance.
