I think the price on the PS4 is quite reasonable especially with 8GB of fast GDDR5 as the main memory. More powerful GPU than Xbox One and possibly higher clock on the 8 jaguar cores.

If only Sony would bring back Linux support.

well, prove me wrong

I don't need to prove you wrong for that ridiculous statement. Just check any good professional render and there's a 99.9% chance that it's been rendered with a ray tracing software.

Ray tracing has been the standard for 3D artists for quite a while already. If you've seen any "wow, is that a render?" it's a ray trace. Just some examples:

I think you mgs5 video looked really nice and that bodes well for PC gaming.

One of the reasons PC gaming doesn't look spectacular is that most of the AAA games are console ports. But those which are not definitely look better than what the consoles can bring.

Another reason is that more users are using laptops compared to desktops, and that limits the possibilities for game developers.

What I'm looking forward to, that I hope the new consoles will bring to PC gaming is:
-High res textures
-Better tessellation/ high polygon count models
-Better use of all cores on the CPU
-Better use of DX11 features

Since many games are multi platform, we as PC gamers should rejoice when the weakest links of the platforms get a boost in capabilities, as that will surely effect how good PC games look. So it's a win win all around, all three platforms get better looking games.

Then we just need games with a complexity not aimed at 11 year old kids

one thing that bothers me is that at least 2 games will be going 2.35 ratio format which is stupid to me. now everyone can have black bars because its more cinematic?

Just because the PS4 has that much VRAM doesn't mean near all of it will be used for the GPU. Most of it will be game data. On average I bet that less than 2 gigs will ever be used for the GPU itself.

The beauty of all that game data is that we get bigger worlds to play around in that have more detail.

Frankly if they can get better AI out of those CPU cores and vastly increased RAM, that would help gameplay more than prettier graphics.

There will be a severe limitation to AI. RAM does not help AI, and those CPU cores are not likely to do a good job with AI compared to PCs. Tons better than the last console generation of course, but don't expect any revolution compared to current PCs.

Well, Killzone Shadow Fall uses 3GB for the graphics

You have to be kidding right? The games shown off are using DX11 which has been around on the PC for years, we've also had the power of these consoles for like 3 generations of graphics.

Most games for the PC that have had additional treatment for DX11 effects like Crysis, Metro, etc, the tessellation shown off has been around for years as well. PCs have been running this tech for literally years, there's nothing next gen about these consoles at all, they're playing catch up with PC games.

The lack of DX11 games for the PC is more to do with lazy developers making 1 game fits all, lowest common denominator development means that PC games are artificially limited because of the lack of technology in the current gen consoles.

For anyone that's ever modded the crap out of recent PC games (where the community have improved the graphics that lazy developers would not) such as GTA IV, or the elder scrolls games, we've had this level of graphics for many years.

Just realized the PS4 dual shock controller is still horrid compared to the Xbox controller.

No staggered analog sticks = Fail

Mainly everything about their analog sticks feedback, location, and feel is terrible. Sony can claim all they want, but I'm sure most folks prefer the Xbox controller.

XBox 360 controller on PC still king.

Not me. Dualshock has been my favorite since PSX. I guess it's about the american idiosyncrasy. Put anything big, bulky and shiny in the american market and you're golden.

And PC folks prefer Xbox controller because you don't have to fiddle with options, hacks and other stuff.

have to say, i never saw anything like that in tech demos, it's always just a bunch of crystals with light reflection and refraction

Glad he took the time to find the stuff so I didn't have to lol. The holy grail of pc graphics is being able to render ray tracing in real time at high enough FPS for smooth motion. That will be when we pretty much can't distinguish games from reality. Imagine that on an Occulus Rift!

Dark Sorcerer Demo running on the PS4 in realtime
I haver NEVER seen such realistic gorgeous graphics. Ever.

Yes, it looks very good. (they used ~350MB of memory for each characters textures. )
Nice thing is that the studio has always had better quality in their games than in their tech demos.

Order 1886 was nice as well, sadly I haven't found full quality version of it.

Division from Ubisoft looked great as well.
It showed what kind of density in detail in large world can be done when memory limitation is lifted significantly from 512MB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW9fdki5k1s

PC versions of games are possible and we will certainly see many of those, but we will also see jump in terms of CPU and GPU and memory consumption needed for the visuals.
Expect plenty of games which scale CPU to 8 or more cores and use 64bit executables.

I like how everyone is ignoring this... If you still think Crysis 3 looks anywhere near this level, you are delusional

Its unbelievable that they can do this kind of thing with a measly 7870...
Hopefully this is what most games will look like in a couple years

Edit: Wow, I hadnt seen The Division yet, looks incredible as well... The production values on these games are just off the charts, so much detail everywhere

That look like just the intro, not real time game play.
Dark sorcerer?
It is not a game, there is no gameplay, AI, etc.
It's a tech demo rendered realtime.

Order 1886 is realtime cutscene using game assets. (they say the assets are same for cutscenes and ingame.)

Staggered analog sticks is incredibly awkward for me.
