Nexiuz
After reading a thread here about free FPS games, I've just learned about a new open source, GPU arena shooter-type FPS game called Nexuiz. I've investigated it some and it looks very interesting.
This may be worth investigating for those of you who enjoyed Quake 3, Unreal Tournament (1999), and even UT 2004. It's built on a modified Quake 3 engine. I watched the video at their website and it doesn't look bad. It strikes me as a game that's (1) designed for the PC, (2) focused on the quality of the game play and the fragging, and (3) amenable to modding and custom content.
Could this be what we've all been waiting for? I have no idea, but I'm intrigued. Apparently it's been around since mid-2005 but it's still receiving updates (most recent one was in May 2009) and has a small, active community.
I'm very interested in this because I think that an open-source type of project is really people's best bet for a UT99/Quake 3 successor (as opposed to a new release from a gaming company infected with Consolitus), which is why I find this so interesting.
Thoughts? You can find the video here:

There's also a Wikipedia entry:

They have an IRC channel at irc.Quakenet.org #nexuiz.
