Nexus 4 broken screen

I dropped my nexus 4, nice crack across the bottom of the screen. 75% of the touch screen still works. Just not the lower part.

I already have a nexus 5 for a replacement but due want to get this one back in working order to sell or for a backup.

If the touch screen still works, then I just need to replace the top glass part and that's all right? Not the digitizer, etc.

Can someone elaborate on that for me? Used to replace iphone screens long ago, etc so I can find my way around with youtube, etc. Just curious which part I need to purchase and what I don't need.

The Nexus 4 digitizer is "printed" on the top glass, so you can replace that, but keep in mind that that is glued to the LCD with LOCA. You can try your luck separating those 2 but it isn't easy.

Well if the LCD(plus printed digitizer) isn't expensive, I can grab that. I just didn't know want to deal with it if it will be a huge PITA.

It's about a hundred bucks for a replacement display (LCD+Digitizer+Glass) for an LG E980, which is basically the same phone, but AT&T branded and running LG's Android release.

I had to replace the screen on my Nexus 4 a few weeks ago. I initially was going to replace just the top glass as the digitizer and LCD both still worked, however after research, what kpkp said is true - the LCD and digitizer are effectively one piece unless you have the time/patience to separate the glue (which apparently can take a few hours).

You can buy the LCD/Digitizer already glued for about $50, but you need to then separate the broken display from the phone frame and re-attach the new one.

Instead, I purchased a complete LCD/digitizer with frame on amazon for about $75 (now is at $82 - Link). Took 15 minutes to separate the case, pull of the mother/daughter boards, and get the new screen/frame installed. Works great, and I still have the old frame/lcd/digitizer if I decide I want to try to get that working as a backup (which would just cost about $20 for the new digitizer).

If you've never done this (I hadn't) then I'd recommend getting the complete frame.

i had the same issue with mine, be careful where you buy your screen, A LOT are not gorilla glass, the amazon link says some are and some are not

Alright, finally looking into replacing the screen.

How does one know if it's gorilla glass or not on amazon? The link above doesn't specify. When I click on the link to 12 other sellers selling the same thing, nothing is specific either.

Any clue?

If you're trying to sell keep in mind a Nexus 4 that hasn't had it's screen cracked/replaced goes for as low as ~$150.
