Nexus 6P: Android restore

Hey guys, so I just got my new nexus 6p setup after my last one was stolen and when I was setting up the new phone it prompted me to restore from my old nexus 6p backup so I did. it reinstalled all the apps (or almost all I think) but all of their data is missing :\ ... that's what I really need how can I get it to do that? Also can it restore my text messages?

Pretty sure those are gone, unless you used a specific backup program to save off app data and call/sms data. Only thing Android restore does is reload apps that were installed. I'm using SMS Backup+ to do scheduled backups of SMS messages to cloud storage.

Theoretically it can also restore your data but it stupidly relies on the app developer to activate it. Google should have made it easy like iCloud backups.

Unfortunately your data is gone.

Yeah Android Backup/Restore is a disaster. Very few apps actually can recover data (maybe like WhatsApp). It's sad because iOS has had the ability to transfer data to new devices since 2008. I've used it multiple times whether its iOS3, iOS5, iOS9. As much as I hate iTunes, it works surprisingly well for backing up important stuff as well as stupid stuff like my Angry Birds scores.

For SMS backups, I recommend using SMS Backup & Restore. It won't help you if your phone is stolen though unless you make regular backups.

I just don't understand why Google can be so retarded sometimes. The whole backup thing is particularly silly because there's been an option to "backup to account" in Android for a long long time but it has never really worked and for some reason Google hasn't even really tried to make it work.

Well like you said it likely has to have some APIs and app developers program for that. Plus, space is limited, which is why iCloud backups are limited too.

With that said though, there's no excuse for no backup tool that can be run on a computer similar to iTunes. Apple deployed that since Day 1, even if iCloud didn't come til much later.

Without root? Helium backup is the only app that can do that.
