there are 3 types:

dry application, gloss surface - these are usually the cheapest, all the same

dry application - matte surface - these will resist fingerprints and reduce glare a bit more than the dry/gloss ones but will introduce some weird color effects to the screen if you look closely

wet application - these withstand scratches better than the dry ones since they're usually a bit softer - they'll say things like "self healing". they have a slightly rubbery feel, not as smooth for the dry ones. they will have a slightly noticeable "orange peel" effect when examined closely. all wet application ones are pretty much the same

long story short - no difference within each of the 3 types.

I would disagree completely. I have a Martin Fields protector on my N4 and it's way better than the cheaper one I had on my N7. The more expensive one feels more like glass, actually reduces fingerprints and has better touch sensitivity. Not to mention it was easier to apply.

Yeah. I've had great experience with Martin Fields. Solid quality, more scratch resistant than the ghetto eBay ones, and in general pretty good with fingerprints.

Please elaborate. I have a screen protector on my cell phone and it is badly scratched. I would hate to have the phone display scratched like this.

As everyone treats their devices differently, YMMV. My 21 month old Razr with no protector only has a couple tiny scratches that you have to be looking for to find, but if your protector is badly scratched you'd probably have a good few more scratches than I do. I would note though that a screen protector would scratch more readily than gorilla glass, so if you didn't have one your phone would likely not be as badly scratched (if it is GG)

For the tablet though, are you going to keep it in a case? I, and I think most people, think that if you're using a case anyway, a screen protector is probably redundant. If you're not using a case though I think the protector is probably a good idea

If its not a glass screen protector it sucks. Seriously you feel that way once you get one. Its like the SSD of mobile devices.

Plastic sucks under your finger.

With that said I keep my tablets in a covering case.
