Nexus 7 screen scratched

Hey all,

Thanks to my ruthless son, my nexus 7 has numerous scratches on the screen. Obviously, I should have taken precautionary methods prior to letting him abuse the thing, but damage is done

With that said, would a wet application screen protector hide these scratches? Also, why didn't Google use a stronger material on the face, as we do on our modern day flagship phones?

I don't think a screen protector can hide the scratches. It may help a bit with micro-scratches (like those you see on eye glasses) but from your description I get the impression that the situation is rather severe.

Oh, and I advise you not to let your son play with a modern day flagship phone without screen protector. Not until he ages a bit more. ^^

You can scratch a modern day flagship. They aren't scratch proof, just scratch resistant.

I believe all the water diffuses through the plastic film over a few hours or days after applying the screen protector. While it's still wet the scratches may indeed disappear because the indices of refraction of the glass and water are pretty close to each other, but once it dries they'll almost certainly reappear. You might be able to combine a small amount of an index matching siloxane-based fluid and a screen protector to eliminate the scratches but it's probably not worth the effort unless you want to turn it into a lesson on optics.

AFAIK, the wet application is just to ensure no bubbles are introduced underneath the screen protector.

As mentioned, a wet application should hide the scratches... but just for a couple of days until the water dries.

BTW, the Nexus 7 does scratch more easily than many flagship phones. The glass doesn't seem to have the same resilience as other hardware I've used. Still, I tend to use screen protectors on all my flagship phones. It's easier to apply the screen protectors on phones though since there is less glass real estate to catch bubbles.
