Sorry but $399 is too expensive. It doesn't matter how great the screen or materials are, it's priced too high compared to the iPad Mini. It's has to be at most $349.

All of these touch devices are the same...big slab of glass with plastic/metal/rubber backing material.

I think the Nexus 2013 7" for $100-130 is a much better buy. The Nexus tablet's were great because they were priced right. $399 is not (only Apple can pull that off).

I don't think the price is that bad. The only reason why I may not get one is because I'm definitely getting the Nexus 6, and I'll be getting a current gen iPad Air from work after the new ones come out, so I won't really need the Nexus 9.

Its at least $50 more than I was expecting. I was hoping $299 and $349 price tags.

I was thinking of selling the Tab Pro I own for one of these. Not so sure now. I don't game on my tablets so the GPU I couldn't care less about.

Honestly they have no real sources other than the already known. Rumors and guessing imo

That seems really unimpressive for $399. I'm hoping for better resolution and the Denver K1. Also, let's hope for more than 16gb of storage for $399. Storage is so cheap, so seeing companies gouge people for it got old a long time ago.

Kinda a letdown. Honestly though I want the Nexus 7 reboot more. I LOVE almost everything about my 2013 except the fact the build quality sucks. I would love a new model made by someone else.

What's wrong with the build quality?

Seems quite durable to me. I love the back finish. Or are you talking something else like smaller bezels, speakers, etc?

I'm not speaking for him, but my Nexus 7 2013 is great on paper, but the touch issues that have plagued it really kill the experience. I get random double taps on the keyboard and it sometimes becomes unresponsive to touch. I can barely highlight a word in the Kindle app to pull up a definition because it 'wiggles' the screen/text under my finger. And then, of course, other times it works perfect for a day or two at a time. Quite a frustrating tablet. I long gave up troubleshooting the thing and ASUS is a joke to work in getting issues resolved. I'm now clinging onto the irrational belief that the 'L' update might improve things.

The touch screen on mine and another I have played with is terrible. Missed touches, delayed touches, seemingly random touches. They went cheap on the digitizer and it shows. I even did the "fixes" I could find on XDA and it simply took things from intolerable to tolerable. Any Android device I have used back to my freaking Nook Color does better.

Also my Nexus 7 will reboot randomly. It mostly does it right at the worst time, like right as I sit down to eat and read an article or right before I hit "post" on some forum rant I typed in.

I would have gotten my wife one by now as a gift because she wants a LTE tablet bad, but I really want to wait for a better quality model. This isn't Asus's first crappy tablet, or even the first one I have owned. I also have the legendarily bad Transformer Prime.

I think everyone is spoiled by cheap Nexus devices that this sounds expensive. It's $100 less than an iPad. Furthermore, if Google finally takes tablets seriously for the THIRD time, it would be a good buy.

I'm all for a tablet with high end specs. Put 2 good cameras in, a vibration motor which the N7 lacks, colored LED notification (not just the white light of the N7) in a small compact chassis without the giant bezels of the N10, and its a solid iPad competitor.

Of course software still needs to come up to speed... ahem Facebook, how long as it been?

Shield Tablet is a better buy at $299.

I bought one and quickly returned it. (2 days). I bought a Tab S 8.4 and although slower with specs and more bloated, it runs so much better for me.

It was garbage. I've ranted plenty. So full of bugs. Terrible screen. Ran hot. and last.... it was not stable for me. I couldn't even enable a 2nd profile without it turning into a giant lag fest. As soon as you went back to 1 profile, it fixed it. Factory resetting it didnt resolve anything.

A ton of force closes too - Facebook scrolling was super slow - Profiles issue above, Random screen tearing in apps - Screen quality - its too warm for my liking - whites are yellow. ITS HEAVY.

What good is all that Horse power if its mounted on a frame with 4 flat tires?

It's not cheaper than the iPad mini which is a problem because that's exactly what it's going to compete with. It's not 10" so it shouldn't be competing with a 10" tablet.

I hope it's something special. I went to Bestbuy today and check out smartphones and tablets and left it unimpressed. Same old, same old. Even the Note 4, new iPhones, and Tab S did not do it for me. I shudder to think of battery life of Tab S LTE model. (if it exists)

But its a 8.9" tablet. You're saying that should compete against a 7.9" tablet and not the 9.7" tablet? If anything its closer to a 9.7" tablet. Plus, the Nexus 7 is more of the Mini competitor, no?

Anyhow, it sits between two tablets and given there's only 1 Nexus tablet this year, its likely a competitor for both. So as someone who wants a good Android tablet, I see this as a good buy still.

Sorry people are not buying this for $399.
The 9" screen is on no man's land.
Not small enough to hold in 1 hand and not big enough compares to others.
The Samsung 8.4 tablet is the perfect size.
Small enough to hold in 1 hand in portrait and just big enough.
I've been tempted many times to buy a refurbished 8.4 pro for $199 but I can't figure out how to use it when I have a 11.6 Air.

I wouldn't rule out 9 incher just because it's 9 inch. I liked a 9 inch Nook tablet. Great for formatted documents. I think every size has a place in the market.

As to the price, we don't know yet what it's going to be like so I will reserve my judgment. $400 is high for what Nexus tablets used to be, but who knows? Maybe Google will surprise us with an exceptional product.

If it is not up to the billing, and if the past is any guidance, Google will lower the price rather quickly. So I wouldn't worry about getting ripped by a Nexus product. I think Google have built enough trust with Nexus brand so that I will give them a benefit of doubt.

Was pretty excited to hear that it's a 4:3 display tablet. But, at $400, I'd rather get an iPad Mini or step up to the next-gen Air.

@cbrunny: Nexus 9 is the launch platform for the 64-bit Android "L" OS, so it should have the 64-bit Tegra K1 Denver variant inside.

I have Shield tablet with the 32-bit Tegra K1 variant, and the performance, audio quality, and screen quality has been excellent so far after many weeks of ownership (and the tablet only gets slightly warm to the touch after > 30 minutes of continuous gameplay with the GPU-intensive Trine 2 console-quality game).

Nexus 9 should be a much more premium device in comparison, with better single-threaded CPU performance, better CPU power efficiency, and bigger and better screen in comparison.
