I would have preferred a Nexus 7 refresh, newer hardware and smaller bezels. Damn at this point it looks like I'll be passing on all 2014 Nexus devices this time :/

Some new ads for the new Nexus devices / new Android advertising campaign:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAtXcxImVp8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfmRFIzheo8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dA6-GzDZfis

Apparently these "leaked" yesterday during The Walking Dead - someone was watching the show online and clicked a banner ad leading them to these or something similar. More details on this are available here:

http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-6-nexus-9-google-android-ads-537496/

Worth noting too that this link is supposedly for the new campaign/devices on launch:

I'm kind of torn now. If those are the specs for the new Nexus tablet, it seems so meh. The new Yoga 2 tablets (windows or android) seem pretty nice.

Nexus 9 should have best-in-class single-threaded CPU performance and best-in-class GPU performance, so for an Android tablet it should be as good as it gets at this point in time. The Yoga 2 Android 8" and 10" tablets are neat devices but are lower cost options that are completely different in design and have a lower resolution screen, less RAM, less CPU/GPU horsepower, more weight and bulk (due to the hinge), and run on Android KitKat 4.4 rather than Android "L".

I can see that for the tablet but not the phone. I hope it is for both, but I am more scared that the 16GB will be the base again.

Honestly my biggest fear right now is Shamu comes with a Shamu pricetag, like $600+

My Nexus 7 2013 died last week, and I got that on launch day. Can't wait to see what Google announces - it's between the next Nexus tablet and the next iPad Mini.

Off-topic Q: Do you guys think the Nexus 7 (2013) LTE is worth $200 at this point in time?

So Google is launching a 6" and a 9" tablet. What happened to a new Nexus phone?

If its a 4:3 AR, its a fail out the gate. We've been trying to get that aspect ratio put out to pasture for years, why dig it up again?

So release is today by press release, expected that pre-orders will start on the 17th. Anyone find anything about what time the press release is today? I don't want to miss the possibility that pre-orders will begin immediately instead of on the 17th.

I'm guessing 9 am PDT? Would be noon EDT.

I have had this same question. My best guess is they're trying to maximize the area of the screen. A 4:3 display with a diagonal has an area of 38 inches squared. At 16:9 with the same diagonal, its 33.8 inches squared. 16:10 is 35.6 inches squared.

Because it's far more useful.

Same reason Microsoft conceded that 16:9 was a joke for a desktop-class tablet, and decided to use 3:2.

16:9 is nice only for video and gaming. Even then, 16:10 is better for gaming.

http://www.androidauthority.com/european-nexus-6-nexus-9-prices-538646/

More on pricing for both devices. N9 looks set at $399 - but the link claims these are european prices making it 399 Euros. That seems nuts to me. I'll believe $399 for the 16GB version though.

Nexus 6 32GB Black: 569 euro
Nexus 6 32GB White: 569 euro
Nexus 6 64GB Black: 649 euro
Nexus 6 64GB White: 649 euro

...

Nexus 9 LTE 32GB Black: 569 euro
Nexus 9 LTE 32GB White: 569 euro
Nexus 9 WiFi 32GB Black: 489 euro
Nexus 9 WiFi 32GB White: 489 euro
Nexus 9 WiFi 16GB Black: 399 euro
Nexus 9 WiFi 16GB White: 399 euro

Assuming that our assumptions are correct (1 euro = 1 dollar, prices are 50 euros higher than in the Play Store), the Nexus 6 could start from about $500 in the US, while the Nexus 9 could start from around $350.

Yes, if you assume their assumptions (*shudder*) are correct, pricing leaks are as leaked (*shudder*).

Keep in mind a lot of B&M retailers sell Nexus devices for much higher than compared to the price on Google Play.

My preference on tablets is 16:9/16:10. I use tablets for pure media consumption, and 4:3 is the worst AR for media consumption. I can't stand gigantic black boxes when I'm watching videos on the iPad Air!

It might be true for the Nexus phone, but definitely haven't seen a higher priced Nexus tablet in B&M stores...They usually stick w/ retail price.
