Has anyone used the Nexus NX-3000 Power Supply? It's recommended as being one of the most silent power supplies at SilentPC.COM

I'm interested in purchasing this unit but they only have a 300W version and I wonder if my Pentium 4 2.4 rig will be able to handle it.

Thanks for your input.

I'd go over to SilentPCReview forums and search the Power Supply threads. If you don't find the info you're looking for, post your question for those guys. Most likely you'll get some good feedback.

The Nexus seems to be a good PSU, they talk well about it over there. Looking at the hadrware that's in your rig, I'd bet you'd be just fine with it.

I just saw this exact same power supply at my local hardware store except it had the label Oikara or something like that on it.

According to someone on the SPCR forums, ExoticPC's SilenX PSU's are supposed to be even quieter

I would recommend the Verax power-supply. It has this german Verax fan inside and this is quiter than Papst-fan or other solutions. It´s based on a FSP (Sparkle) PSU and modified with this Verax fan.

From the link provided:
3.3V & +5V total output not exceed 200W
Poor English, yes, but that is what it says
You'd generally want for a P4 or Athlon (any up-to-date computer, really) at least 220w on the 3.3v and 5v rails. Maybe you could get by on this, depending on what other components you have (like cards and ram versus onboard hardware, NOT drives- they use primarily 12v.)

From the Verax/Fortron psu link:
Maximum load: 300W
Combined load 3.3V+5V: 200W

You could always purchase a non-silent power supply and switch out the fan for an Ultra Quiet NMB, a Panaflo L1A, or a quiet Verax fan.

I got the Enermax Whisper and swapped out the POS thermistor controlled 80 mm fan and the 92 mm fan. I then got two Panaflo fans and run them both at 5 V. VERY quiet. If I had to do this again, I would have gotten a cheaper good quality PSU and done the same swap. That thermistor controlled fan was a total waste of money.

Mind you I'm running a Celeron 1.4 and Radeon 9100 (both with fan mods). The system doesn't put out a lot of heat. (I can run both fanless, but prefer not to as the heatsinks get fairly hot.)
