I noticed last night the fan on the North Bridge of my NF7-S has gone kaput... I haven't noticed any issues thus far, but was curious if this should be a cause for concern i.e. replace it ASAP ?

I wouldn't think as such, but never hurts to ask.

Thanks.

I've seen a lot of nForce2/nForce2 Ultra boards with just passive cooling on the NB, but these use rather hefty heatsinks though. If you haven't had any problems, then it's probably OK to not worry about getting a replacement, but I'd still get one anyway for the peace of mind. At the minimum, I'd take the dead fan off and reapply the thermal compound so the heat can dissipate a little quicker.

I believe that northbridges do NOT have killswitches for heat. Which means if the chip heats up to dangerous levels it wont shut the system down, itll contunue running until it either overheats and crashes, or overheats and causes permanent damage.

I would get an aftermarket heatsink just to be safe, they arent expensive.

I agree, I put a Zalman NB35J on my NF7-S northbridge and it runs very cool. You won't be sorry with it.

Those stock HSF's on tha BIt are kinda dinky but they have fans. I would reccommend getting getting a new one most cost under 10 bucks so I think with the risk of having to get a new board I would get a new one.

You could ask ABit to send you a new one cause urs died?

This has happened on 2 of my NF7s. The systems seem to run OK with the fan jammed and the stock HS in place.

One of the boards burned out for other reasons, but the other seems to be just the same as when it was new.
