Most horrific ever? The tackle was clean and wasn't especially violent. What little we know suggests that this was a concussion layered on top of a concussion on Sunday, hence all the wincing when Tua went down and stayed down. I realize that head injuries are particularly scary but I can't imagine this is near the top of worst NFL "injuries." Without specific knowledge (I was too young), I recall the hit that ended Joe Theismann's career was particularly brutal. But they didn't have HD (much less 4k) broadcasts back then or social media, so it probably didn't resonate as much. That um, possible paralysis to Tua is the most horrific thing I've seen in the NFL. Ever
Just the way his fingers went all janky and you could see his brain essentially screaming.
Not good.
It was the first thing I thought happened as soon as it did, and here we are, like 12 minutes later.
Theismann's recollection:
The pain was unbelievable, but it didn't last more than a second or two. My leg snapped like a breadstick. I heard it clearly, it sounded like two muzzled gunshots over my left shoulder. Pow, pow! ... It was at that point, I also found out what a magnificent machine the human body is. Almost immediately, from the knee down, all the feeling was gone in my right leg. The endorphins had kicked in, and I was not in any great pain.
