The Seahawks will be out of it next week after they get trounced by SF.

Hate to say it, but I wouldn't count them out. Yeah, we've been solid against them twice this year, but I think it's very difficult to beat a team 3x. Especially a division rival. Don't get me wrong, I want nothing more than my 9ers to destroy their hopes and dreams, but I think it'll be closer than most people think.

Since you're (apparently?) a 49er fan I completely get the postseason pessimism BUT I believe SF is going to smash Seattle.

The one unknown for SF is how "Mr Suddenly VERY Relevant" Purdy reacts to the playoff atmosphere and if he can handle it... I say yes but we'll see!

He'll have the leading defense in the league backing him up. His tools in offense are terrific, everybody's pretty healthy: Deebo, McCaffery, Iyauk, Kittle, and running back Mitchell has returned and there are at least 2 other capable running backs plus Deebo and McCaffery who are in effect running backs and receivers.

In my mind the interesting thing about Purdy is that he hasn't been a bench warmer. He was 4 year starter IIRC at Iowa State, has practiced against the best defense in the NFL in this his first year in the league. He came in and has never missed a beat. 2 or more touchdown passes in each of his 5 games as starter and undefeated. My worry about him is that at Iowa State his TD/Interception ratio was about 2/1, not terrific. He's doing better as a 49er.

Definitely want to see the niners game but won't be able to. But I hope that guy does well, wish I could watch them go at it.

Really hoping the Giants show up on Sunday though, that can very well be a great game, which means it will be a blowout lol

NFCW is crazy bro, especially in the playoffs. Even against a non-conference team: do recall that an ~-to-better-SF team (compared to '22 SF) lost against the woeful Giants team in the NFCCG based on some muffed punt to the crotch at the end of the game--the Giants that went on to de-Brady for the 2nd time, I might add--so just saying.

Don't reject the ability of such a great team to lose to even worse teams, for no fucking reason, in the playoffs.

Yep.... on any given Sunday and all that I know.

Even so IMO 8 times out of 10 SF wins this matchup UNLESS Purdy gets a bad case of the yips. (which COULD happen... but I doubt it)

Whatever happens all I know is that the best two weekends of football for the entire season are coming up next!

I know but I think it's even closer than that. These are serious rivals. They hate each other. A lot of that stuff just doesn't matter as much when you have say, non-division opponents with that kind of history.

Seattle has weapons that can go off and SF def has "kinda backed in to this one" on a bit of a slump considering the rest of their stellar year. That's kind of a big deal, even though their offense is just ridiculous and only seeming to get better as, somehow, McCaffrey just seems to get more comfortable? and Kittle is finally utilized over the last couple of weeks. Things have opened up for other defenses in the league, against SF, where they really only have 4-5 weeks of film to study compared to what they were doing earlier in the season.

It makes things much harder for any defense to prep for that.

I'm sorry but I simply can't accept that Geno Smith is going to win a playoff game, really under ANY circumstances BUT especially against the Niners crushing defense.

Hopefully it's a good game!

Sure but like I said earlier: some dude here once said that same thing about Flacco. A lot.

1 week later, that dude had perma-banned himself from these forums and ~4-5 weeks after that, the term "Flacco Money" was first coined by the sports press to define "the largest NFL contract up to that time."

lol, it's all true.

Yeah but.... Geno Smith??

Still, there's a reason they actually play the games and we pretty much KNOW he won't get overly nervous at this point in his career at least.

Having said that, if I bet on football my money would be on SF to take not only this game but very likely the NFC Championship.

I'm always nervous for the 49ers when they face Pete Carroll. It will definitely help that the game is in Santa Clara.

not moderator action...just AMDZen sorta served a lot of crow up for 2 weeks straight and just, eh, did his mea culpa and stopped posting after the Peyton Broncos lost to [the champion Ravens] in the divisional round that season that it was "his time."

It lead up to the "Harbowl"

Even with his patented Eye Test, Captante's predictive ability appears to be about 25% accurate. Before SNF, he predicted the Lions would shoot themselves in the feet. Not realizing this Lions team is far from the woeful teams of the past two decades; and the 2022 Packers are a team in transition. If you look at just QB play, Jared Goff had a better season than Kaaron Rodgers; and arguably a slightly better season that Tom Brady although Tom had much more volume (yardage).

Since Captante just predicted the two best weeks of NFL football, you can expect a lot of bad games this weekend. And although anything can happen in any given game, I don't see the Seahawks rising to the occasion and giving these Niners a difficult challenge. (Famous last words )

At least MY eyes will be focused on MY team on the field.

(even if they do get their heads handed to them!)

Listening to WFAN this morning a LOT of Giants fans feel like the Giants are going to be moving on the divisional round with a victory in MN.

Frankly much as I'd love to see NY win, if the Vikings actually show up they SHOULD take this one going away.

I hate sayings like "playing with house-money" but honestly that's how this game feels to me.... and after the last few Giants seasons I'm all over it!

Seattle vs 49ers = I expect hard hitting slugfest that is closer than it seems as Purdy gets exposed but Frisco ultimately prevails. Not pretty football.

Chargers vs Jags = Probably going to be boring except when the "Chargering" beings.

Dolphins vs Bills = there is nothing to expect but a Bills victory

Giants vs Vikes = It's going to be ugly as two incomponent but sometimes capable QBs show the full breadth of their skillset, both good and bad.

Ravens vs Bengals = AFC North is slog ball defined, nothing is exciting, everything is muck, bad weather, and QBs in the ground. But Lord Burrow will prevails.

Bucs vs Cowboys = Going some putrid stuff for approximately 50 minutes and then TB 12 his last minute magic in a close one.

My picks:

Seattle vs 49ers:
I'm not expecting a total blowout but I think SF's overpowering D wears the Seahawks down.

Chargers vs Jaguars: Very even match although I slightly favor Jacksonville.

Dolphins vs Bills: If Tagovailoa was 100% and starting I'd say it would be a very close game but with Miami apparently playing a rookie @ QB this one may get ugly early and often for the fish.

Giants vs Vikings: On paper the Vikings SHOULD beat the snot out of Big Blue but NY played the Vikings tough recently and has a "punchers chance" with their D depending on which version of Cousins shows up.

Ravens vs Bengals: I like the Bengals all the way in this one although the score may stay on the low side.

Bucs vs Cowboys: To me this is the toughest pick of Wildcard weekend. Both of these teams are fully capable of winning this game and it could go either way. Going to pick the Bucs because "Brady".

The only one of your scoring predictions I take issue with is the bolded.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Lightning Bolts win the game but I think at the least the Jags will make it interesting in the 2ed half. LA's defense tends to wear down as the game goes on and Jacksonville has become very physical.

I am just holding Jacksonville being "virgin" playoff team against them. The nerves and inexperience will probably show.
