Serious question, are there that many people saying it wasn't a hold? I haven't seen that here, or with any significance in r/eagles. Whether calling it was consistent with the way the game had been called to that point is the issue that I think is reasonable to discuss. Hell, when Cowboys fans are complaining about the call that ices the Eagles seasons it may merit some discussion.

In the list of items to discuss, it's way way way down the list. It's frustrating as a fan to watch the drama end that way, but ultimately it's a human making split second decisions, and we didn't all see what they saw.

I'd rather see the NFL answer to why such a trashy field was rolled out for the SB, and how they will avoid that.

Otherwise, the eagles loss falls squarely on the coaching staff and allowing themselves to be exposed, then failing to adjust and counter.

So EB must have pissed off Shady to have him say this - https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...t-he-had-nothing-to-do-with-chiefs-pass-game/
Like holy shit, why say that if you like the guy?
To clarify its one thing that most people know or it's unspoken it's Andy's playbook and EB doesn't call plays, but to go this far? Yikes.

Meh, him and Le'Veon Bell seem to have the same problem, they were once great RBs angry about their roles on a pass first team when they were clearly well past their prime. I think they hold grudges because of Bienemy being a RB coach that was OC, like they expected him to give them preferential treatment, only for them to end up being part of a rotation of RBs which I know pissed off both of them. Sounds like sour grapes. Plus McCoy has lots of loyalty to Reid.

I think there's way too much made of play designs. At this point just about every way to run a play legally has been thought up and so it just comes down to talent of your team (which sorry, Bell and McCoy, without Mahomes, Andy wouldn't be winning jack shit either as evidenced by the literal decades of that being shown to be the case) to execute it. Most coaches/teams have such comprehensive playbooks that its really just terminology differences. Many players specifically talk about that being the key aspect to getting up to speed when traded to a new team.

The above is all true.... BUT .... take Pat Mahomes out of the picture and let me know how things work out for KC in that game. (even if he had been seriously "gimpy" from the ankle the Eagles romp IMO... the Chiefs D played well but it wouldn't have been nearly enough)

I like Andy Reid a lot as a head coach but he only shares in the credit.

This is always a garbage argument. Name me a HoF or simply "great" QB or Head coach in the history of the NFL that didn't "share" their success with a HoFer (or great) coach/QB.

off the top of my head, I can only think of Peyton Manning still being good with the garbage Colts teams after Dungy left, and of course finally winning his second in Denver, despite a shitty head coach and of course, despite Manning also being really fucking shitty that year. Of course he was also great in Denver those previous years, despite the same shitty coach.

Totally agreed about the field and staff.

My FAVORITE Manning-Donkeys moment...

Good move by both teams.

Jones gets 82 guaranteed and 35 in incentives. Now they can go get him a couple playmakers, an o lineman, and then we'll see about Jones with pieces around him. I think he has a very good chance to succeed, the jury is out

How much would he have gotten if they hadn't won a playoff game this season?

Contract structured very well for the Giants. Only a 19 million hit this season

Got a little more reading on this today. This is basically a 2 year deal - a small cap hit this year to give them freedom to get more playmakers for Jones, and a bigger cap hit next year, but then they can move on if they have to. I respect that. You still need to see what Jones can do with some more talent around him, he has proven that, but you still gotta make sure he does. With this contract, you do that. If he does terrible next year, you draft a QB, pay him in a rebuilding year, and move on. If he does great, he earned that contract.

Overall considering the utter lack of any other option this was a good deal for both Jones AND the Giants. Short-term having the cap-space to keep Barkley via the "franchise-tag" is potentially huge.

HOWEVER the Giants team as-constituted played over its head in 2022 and has many significant holes to fill before they're truly "championship-caliber" they don't "just need a running back". (or any other single piece)

Next year we won't be "sneaking up" on anyone and most years a 3rd place finish in the NFC East leaves you watching the playoffs on TV.

Meanwhile listen to all the "brilliant" Jets fans on WFAN (NY Sports talk radio) ranting and raving about how "great" it would be if that total POS Aaron Rodgers "brings them a Superbowl". Any of them actually watch him play this past NFL season? (to be fair he doesn't "suck" but is a shell of his former self QB-wise)

There's a damn good reason NO other NFL team is interested in signing him except the perpetual losers who run the "think-tank" (rotfl) for Gangreen.

Can I PLEASE (!!) have some of whatever those id10'+'s are smoking ?!?

I can't wait to see Rodger's following in the footsteps of his mentor and fellow Jets legend Favre, and out of the nfc north at fucking last

But if Rodgers is a perfect follower, he'll be a Viking and thus a Packers derailer for a couple years.

And then one wonders if there is a God...
