Hate to break it to you but Purdy showed he is a legit good QB, not a game manager.
I missed three quarters. He cracked on numerous zero blitzes when the game could have been won in the 4th and OT. The KC D was reeling and on its last legs.

He's above Kirk Cousins and Dak Prescott. He's not better than Mahomes or Burrow. I wouldn't even put him on the same level as Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson.

I couldn't handle the stress and had to tune out. I really, really wanted the niners to win. Why? Why TF not? KC is just f'ing greedy from my POV

Greedy? Are you forgetting the 5 Super Bowl wins the niners have?
That assumes that I ever knew they had 5 wins. Hahaha, psych!

Seriously though, this is the first season I've paid any attention at all to sportsball, well, since I stopped betting on it which was a while ago. And I was only interested in the cash (more specifically, losing it) I remember precisely squat.

But KC has now won something like 5 of the past 6? I think that's what one of the talking heads said. He also mentioned that the last niner win was 1995. Plus, they got spanked by KC the last time more recently so I figured they were due.

And you have admit that for a qb who had been ranked so unfairly, he kicked ass.

They won 3 of the last 5 Super Bowls (2019, 2022, 2023), but appeared in only 4 of the 5 (they lost 2020, didn't appear in 2021). They've been in 6 straight AFC Championship games (won 4, lost in 2018 and 2021).

I couldn't handle the stress and had to tune out. I really, really wanted the niners to win. Why? Why TF not? KC is just f'ing greedy from my POV

I'll let Herm explain it to ya.

Well played game but wasn't a fun watch. That first half was ugh. 2nd half wasn't much better but 4th quarter was exciting-ish. I hate games like that though, its like basketball games that go down to free throws.

I loved Boomer at halftime pointing out the 49ers center was ineligble downfield on their TD and so it shouldn't have counted. Somehow I doubt many people would've been complaining had they won in spite of that.

Feel bad for the 49ers that got injured. Greenway especially, that's a rough way to miss out on a Super Bowl. They played tough, but Chiefs D was just too much and then Mahomes finally put the game away.

Chiefs D deserved the MVP. Without their play they wouldn't have even had a chance to stay in it. I really wished he had actually said that during the ceremony.

The Chiefs D wasn't dominant at all. They were bent almost to the breaking point multiple times. Critical 3rd and 4s where SF could have iced it. Purdy had multiple times where he had a clean, clean pocket and could do some slicing and dicing.

If the old OT rules were still in place...it's a SF Super Bowl.

So do the niner's have a curse or pox on their house or something now?

Seem to be able to make it to SB but not win in the current era.
Kyle Shanahan is assembling a dismal resume in Super Bowls:
OC for the Falcons that blew a 28-3 lead.
HC for the Niners who blew a 10 pt lead going into the 4th quarter.
HC for the Niners who had a 10-0 lead and dominated almost the entire first half.

I wouldn't pin this loss on him (unlike the other 2), but it's brutal. Esp. considering this was supposed to be their year and they seemingly had a major talent advantage over the Chiefs. It was a virtual pick'em only because Mahomes alone is worth a couple points; heading into the playoffs the Chiefs were widely considered a second tier team.

Both defenses played very well. I'd give Purdy maybe a "B" grade, and Mahomes was a B+ (or A- at best). Spagnuolo's defense bent but never broke, and that is all you needed when Mahomes is working his clutch magic. Andy Reid called a terrible game, wasting down after down on short rushing gains.

What do the Niners do with Aiyuk? He's going to ask for $30M per season, and although he's a great WR, I just don't feel any WR is worth that money. Not even Tyreek Hill or Davante Adams. (As an aside, the Dolphins will have trouble with Hill's cap number in 2025 and they have to overpay Tua soon.) The Niners are lucky that Purdy isn't extension-eligible for another year, but championship windows in today's NFL aren't open very long unless your QB Is Patrick Mahomes.

SF & KC are probably my 2 fav teams in the NFL at the moment, so I was going to be happy however it turned out.

I like KC slightly more, but picked SF to win. SF, IMO, looked like the better team all night. Not sure how they managed to lose. The main reason I like SF is because of Juaun Jennings - he played his college ball in Tennessee. He was a beast all night - in one way or another he was behind both of SF's 2 touchdowns. The announcers got one thing about him wrong, though... The last time TN beat Georgia, it wasn't because Jennings threw a Hail Mary into the endzone (as the announcers said). Rather, Jennings pulled down an impossible Hail Mary in the endzone. He proved himself last night - SF should hopefully give him more targets next season.

I hate both teams equally, Purdy could not rise to the situation from the looks of it, he had better wr's but could not take advantage of it ? If it had not been for MccAffrey it would have been much worse

Congrats to the Chiefs, they are a modern dynasty now.
Yup. And they deserve it.

As a Bills fan, my only solace is that the Bills finally lost to the actual Super Bowl champion (the other two times they lost to the Chiefs, the Chiefs didn't go on to win it all). And Allen and the Bills' offense were significantly better against the Chiefs than any other team (3.0 points per drive vs 2.0 for SF, 0.7 for Miami, 1.0 for Baltimore). Unfortunately, the injury-riddled defense couldn't do much to stop Mahomes.

I would like to see a different team win next year, but it looks like it is Mahomes' era.

Man fuck...
So much to unpack on this game.
First the Greenlaw injury, WTAF. He wasn't doing anything stupid like celebrating after a big play, just amp'd to get back on the field. I'll never understand any non-contact injuries like these that happen to players.
Kyle's play calling was shit starting the 2nd half, didn't lean on CMC starting out like they should have and felt a lot of Purdy's throws he was leaving his feet unnecessarily which made for bad passes.
Special teams again doom us in the post season, fucking flash backs to NFC champion games against the Giants and punts FUCK.
CBS sucks, Tony and the other guy kept saying Moody missed a kick. No fuck faces IT.WAS.BLOCKED. Kinda of a big difference.
So rambling here, also felt like 2nd and 3rd quarter for so reason either the play calling or Purdy were trying to force the ball to Deebo too much, he was blanketed and should have looked else where. Didn't like the look of many guys getting nick'd and coming out of the game briefly, (Deboo, Kittle another linemen) felt like they were quitting.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something else, but the only solace in this loss I can think of, is with a 2nd year QB we took another team that has what people are saying is a new "goat" to the absolute brink. So.. yay?

it seems like his achilles must've been almost torn already, and this was the final straw

either that or it's an absolutely freak injury

Now Josh reached the level of Jim Kelly copium. Including "wide right".

Poor game execution/planning. They have the offensive player of the year and in the 4th quarter, they tried to rely on Purdy's arm. I don't get why they don't rotate Mitchell and Mason through more to give 23 a rest. Then in 4th quarter when defenses are tired, run 23 down their throat.

Was just going to say that. Whatever it was that took a shit was on the edge already. I told those watching around be that could have been a career ending injury if it happened on the field under another 400lbs of meat instead.
