Unknowable how Darnold does elsewhere, or in the future. The smartest play is to give the Vikings a "team-friendly" deal that still compensates him well enough (see Geno Smith). If he again leads the team to the playoffs in 2025 with very solid play, he can easily ask for new money at any time.Yea I think Sam would do fine on another team after the year he's had. His last 2 games didn't do him any favors in the confidence department but he should be able to shrug it off by next season and continue to play well if he's placed in a similar system. At minimum a solid backup. I'm not too familiar with the QBs coming out of the draft this year, but if a team could hold off, fill other needs and snag him for a year or two he'd be serviceable.
The dumbest play would be to go to the Raiders for max money now, because he could be out of the NFL by the end of that contract. The grass isn't always greener on the other side; in fact, there's no grass in Las Vegas.
Unlike a year ago, this isn't considered a great year for QBs in the draft, and IIRC Darnold is now considered the top available QB in free agency.
