Wife and I started watching the show over the weekend and it's pretty good. But yea ASB is good. IIRC he got snubbed for Pro Browl. Dude had a year. He's also fluent and German and I believe he speaks French as well.

Bill Barnwell thinks Purdy gets well in excess of $300M. He also poses the question of whether the Niners (or any NFL team, really) would be "brave" enough to trade away its franchise QB instead of paying him market value. If I'm not mistaken, the Redskins letting Kirk Cousins walk is the rare exception.

It's pretty gross, but he thinks Dak Prescott and Jordan Love will both crack $60M AAV too.

As a 9er fan I'm totally rooting for him to get paid, but +$300m seems like a scary proposition. I'm not a contracts guy, just don't know the inner workings, but like Barnwell pretty much said, it'd blow up that roster. It's most likely going to change significantly after this year (maybe even during this season if we can't come to an agreement with BA and now Trent Williams) anyways. Would a contract similar to Mahomes' 10-year deal be in the cards?

For most of the article, Barnwell provides a lot of evidence that Purdy is a very good QB and deserves whatever mega deal he eventually signs. To you and I, the numbers are insane but that's just a reflection of the NFL's strong growth year after year. QB is very difficult to project out but Purdy seems to be at least as good as Trevor Lawrence, who recently got a record-matching deal.

Mahomes' original 10 year deal is kind of interesting; it was announced as a $500M deal but both sides knew there was no scenario where the contract wouldn't be restructured. Restructuring QB deals to reduce cap hit is extremely common, of course, but Mahomes deal was designed to make headlines as the richest North American sports contract ever. Turns out Mahomes actually outperformed the first several years of compensation, so they already sweetened the pot for him after SB #2. After SB #3 and with all these other young QBs inking record deals, Mahomes is likely still "underpaid" and could get some new money in 2026. It's really up to him as far as how much money he takes, vs. leaving some to fill out the roster.

LOL Tua just got paid too. So now it's down to how much pain Dak Prescott and Jordan Love can extract from their teams. I'm happy the Packers have Love as QB1 but it's grotesque that he could get $60M AAV at this stage of his career.

They need salary caps for players.. I would that if they put it up for a vote players would go for it. Even if you capped the QB position at 10% of the salary cap it would be like 22.5 million a year.

I mainly disagree. They have individual "caps" in the NBA of at most 35% of the team's cap. This distorts the market in two ways.

1. The superstars can't get more, so they effectively subsidize ALL other players. MVP-level players are worth a lot more than they can get under the NBA CBA, esp. when you consider commercial value as well (Steph Curry alone has added billions of dollars of value to the Warriors).

2. Somewhat because of #1, a lot of good players get "max deals" when they probably aren't even that good. I could assemble a huge list of guys, but think of players like Zach LaVine or John Wall from a few years ago. Bradley Beal right now is overpaid IMHO. It's hard to say if GMs would have more intestinal fortitude if they didn't feel compelled to give promising young guys a max deal based just on potential. NFL GMs have almost no leverage when negotiating these QB extensions. Thus the contracts keep ballooning.

Remember the players get paid a fixed slice of total league revenue. As long as the NFL grows the pie, the players have to get their cut. Nobody knows how long and far that brisk growth will continue.

Players would never agree to a 10% individual cap, even though there are many more non QBs.

rumor is that it might be Pickens headed to 49'ers , Browns are in the running as well, their package includes A.Cooper+2nd round pick

/also it looks like Vikes rookie JJ McCarthy will be having knee surgery and is likely out for the year

I was just clicking through the schedule on CBS Sports and realized there are point spreads and betting lines for preseason games. How do oddsmakers even set these lines when they don't know which players will play?

I just don't see the Niners pulling the trigger and trading him. He doesn't have the leverage, they can tag him next year and again the following if they wanted to really play hard ball. I'm sure they would try to "do right" by him, but that is if it still falls within range of expected compensation for the team.

I haven't really watched a whole lot of 49er preseason games but I've been seeing stuff on social media about how poorly Purdy is playing. I know he's not playing with his starters and I imagine timing is off etc., but it'd be nice to see Purdy elevate even the 2nd & 3rd stringers. Just doesn't appear to be doing that from what I've read/heard the last 2 weeks. I think he's having some poor practices from what I've read as well.

always a fun read

The author isn't wrong. The Steelers have been the pillar of mediocrity for about a decade now lol. Will have to add this site to my rotation.

Just noticed the kickoff games are on Thursday and Friday on Peacock. Thursday's is simulcast on NBC, but Friday's game in Brazil is exclusively on Peacock...

I wouldn't read that as whether or not to charge. It's more like what is the specific charge, and will the suspect be tried as an adult.

I know zilch about gunshot wounds, but Pearsall seems incredibly lucky!

Wouldn't be surprised if he was charged as a juvenile and he gets a light sentence because no one actually died. The legal system is "flexible" but not flexible. If it wasn't a celebrity WR, then it would absolutely be the normal course...here in the east, the society of delinquents have become well practiced in carjacking and the hidden jurisprudence is powerless to heavily punish juvenile misconduct.
The best time to do crime is before your prime(before 18)

As a Steelers fan for over 60 years, I can't argue with most of what he says.
