Cost of tuition at every schools has risen significantly since 2000. The athletic dept is not the reason for the rise though.

blah blah blah

Total bullsh1t. I wish they'd burn the University in Tuscaloosa to the ground and salt the earth. Bunch of dumbass rednecks run the place, and I can't wait until UAB gets enough government support ot leave the system.

Yeeeeeeeeah, let us know how you really feel.

Prove that it didn't rise due to an expanding athletic budget.

Tuition always rises, but it has risen a MASSIVE amount -- an increase never before seen in the system. If there is millions laying around to pay Saban, then why are they increasing tuition? The Bama football team makes a lot of money, but not that much. You should go look into what teams have made over the past 5 years. It was in the NYTimes not long ago.

It's New Year's Day. I'm getting ready to take my son out to throw the baseball around some. You prove it.

BTW - Funding for the Athletic improvements were done through grants, donations, and loans. Nothing that sounds like it would affect tuition to me.

Alabama also has done some MAJOR non-athletic capital improvements as well - New buildings, new dorms, renovations, bought new land, etc etc etc.

So, after Saban... that leaves 1 million a year. Oh, and that wasn't counting Shula, either. And yes, I realize Bama made 28 million from the football program. However, if they want to hire such a coach, then they should make cuts in other parts of the athletic budget instead of passing the cost on to students.

Show where the costs are being passed on to the students. If anything, they'll be passed on to the ticket buyers.

How much is their current coach making? You can subtract that from the budget as well..

Alabama issues bonds for upgrading athletic facilities and discussing tuitions increases to pay for it.

I find it very hard to believe that Alabama can build or expand so many facilities, fire coaches at a whim, and do it all with just a 5 million dollar profit.

YES, I KNOW THAT THEY GET DONATIONS FROM BOOSTERS. However, THAT goes into their budget and thus a 5 million dollar profit IS PART OF THAT money. Those donations help offset expenses.

Fact is, they just paid Shula big bucks, and they are about to pay Saban even more.

I was wrong what I said about tuition increases. It is more than I thought. Tuition has gone up by 12.1%-14.6% a year in the UA System since 2002.

So why is Alabama issuing bonds? Why is their athletic department budget still only 60 million something (and that includes the donations)?

Fact is, Alabama is in a major expansion, and donations don't cover it all. They've issue bonds and they've tapped other sources of revenue. Namely increases in tutition. They HAVE increased "athletic support fees" in tuition. Mine went up LAST semester at UAB. Do you want me to scan my tuition payment? All my money goes through the UA System.

The "claim" is that Shula's buyout was already collected before they fired him. I don't believe that for a minute. It was a lot of money. If Bama had so much money they wouldn't be issuing bonds or requiring luxury suites be sold in advance before building them. The demand and money would be there. They wouldn't need to raise money just to do a seat expansion at their stadium.

Saban ended up having "No Comment" on the Alabama offer.
