The "gajillions" really start dropping off around this point though, so he might only be making half what he woulda made at the #1 spot if he falls much further.

EDIT: as an SEC fan though I do like seeing the SEC quarterback get the number one and now Quinn has faller even past where Cutler was last year. On the flip side though, falling later into the first round just means you get a better team. Look at the top three quarterbacks last year, Cutler had the highest passer rating then Leinhart then Young (who played terribly but somehow his team still one and everyone loves him). So, I would actually expect that Quinn will have a better passer rating than Russel next year (if he even gets to play) because he will have a better team round him now.

The base pay for a rookie in the NFL is somewhere north of $425,000 I think. I call that good money pretty much anywhere.

Of course, the job DOES require you work weekends

Half is still more than any on here make. Kinda hard to feel bad if he gets humbled for a couple hours. It's payback for that haircut.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying I'm felling all kinds of sorry for him or anything, but just cause he has a punk haircut and plays for Notre Dame doesn't mean we should all revel in his public humiliation (although it IS kinda funny since apparently NFL scouts realize Notre Dame is hugely overrated even if hte rest of the country doesn't, they would be an average team in the SEC).

EDIT: so Carolina need a QB?

I think if I were an intern for ESPN, I'd sneak into the control room and add "Super Bowl XLI" to the "key losses" for Chicago.

Haha, Quinn's still not picked. If Jax doesnt take him here, he's going to slip at least to KC in a few picks.

Packers just got a great player in Harrell. Wish those pre-pube GB fans knew who they were booing.

DT is a pretty big need for the Packers, so I can't fault them for picking that position. Of course my first thought after hearing that was, who is that guy.

would've been a higher pick if he hadn't been injured this season. Played against Florida with a ruptured bicep tendon.

Edit: he also wears 92 (last player to do so) and is from UT so GB should hope he turns out like Reggie.

I'm pretty sure Chicago wouldn't mind seeing Quinn slip past KC too.

Does draft position really matter? I mean I was looking at the 2006 draft and most of the players did not stand out (other than Addai, Deangelo). I guess it could be because of most of the players drafter are big DL/OL.

I think the Patriots will draft Brian Leonard - GO RU!

I don't believe just because you're a higher pick that you'll get paid more. You'll get paid more because they think you're good enough to be a higher pick. Alex Smith at #1 and Matt Leinart at #11 got paid about the same despite the discrepancy there.

Plus, as he goes lower, he'll go to a better team like you said, Cutler style.

That'll allow him to be in a better organization, be better developed, which will allow him to get good which will allow him to get paid big one day.

Dan Marino comes to mind. He was the 5th QB in the first round at #27, and we all know what happened to him (and what didn't).

Wrong, higher picks get bigger contracts and signing bonuses.

The Raiders should NOT get Calvin Johnson with their pick. They dont need a receiver. They need a quarterback. Then again, they also need something that resembles an offensive line or the QB they draft is going to get killed.

I think Matt Leinart could have been the most NFL ready quarterback to come out of college in a long time. Think about how good he would have been last year if the Cardinals could offer him any kind of protection. His credit cards probably offer him better protection than his offensive line.

Jay Cutler > Matt Leinart. Sorry to burst your bubble!

Culter is very good and he'll be great...but Leinart is a better QB. Take into consideration that the Arizona O-line was, by far, the worst line in the NFL... some colleges had better lines that Arizona. And Leinart was still very, very good.

Good deal for the Browns. They get a QB for the future without the top of the draft dollars.

I love the 49er's pick... Willis can be a Ray Lewis type of guy at LB.

Ginn at 9 was a real gamble.

GB picked smart at 16... Harrell is a beast. He is extremely strong and quick... I think of Byrant Young when I look at him, except a little bigger.

Quinn is now the value of the draft.... great job by Clev.

One thought I have is that a lot of scouts don't know how to evaluate CB's and WR's... fortunately the Jets knew what they were doing, Revis is much better than Leon Hall.
