Quiet you bitches. The Bears had an entire game stolen from them by the refs when they called a fumble on Jay Cutler after he clearly stuck the ball across the plane of the goal line. Bad calls against bad teams should be expected. Play through that shit!

Guess that makes up for the game they were given by the refs against their first game vs. Detroit when Calvin had that game winning touchdown catch ruled incomplete.

Actually they had the ruling on the field correct in that game. It's a stupid rule, but it was a correct call.

Meh. It's a cop out and subject to interpretation. I'd love to see an anonymous poll of officials and see what their ruling on the field would have been.

If Chicago had challenged the call and that was what they came back with, then fine. But ruling that on the field? Weak.

More and more getting turned off by the NFL.

i have been for the past 4 years or so. I dont remember when i watched a full game. And the superbowl is a joke. all it is a 4 hour commercial. why do you think so much hype is put into the "new, funny, clever, witty superbowl commercials"? if it wasnt for those no way in hell would the networks have enough viewers watching to pay for the air time.

in mid-January, the Wall Street Journal analyzed the actual amount of play time of the average football game. They added up the amount of time the ball was actually alive and in play in four different games, and it averaged out to about 11 minutes. They concluded that the average game broadcast on TV shows 17 minutes of replays and 67 minutes of players standing around.

Agreed. People wanted to see the refs side with Johnson on that one because he had that one in the bag, but the reality of it was he just let go of the ball too damn quickly. Agree with it or not, I think they called that one according to the playbook which may or may not coincide with what is logical or what should be correct. It's just how it goes.

Have you read the rulebook? It doesn't come close to supporting the call on the field.

You don't have to crack a rulebook to know you have to maintain possession. He did no such thing. His ass hit the ground and the ball came out (even if it was under his own power) before he could even get up to celebrate. I wouldn't blame the refs if they called it a catch, but I can hardly blame them for saying it wasn't.

Uh, he did do such a thing. The rule talks about maintaining possession when going to the ground. Johnson did that, and, in the process of getting up to celebrate, let go of the ball. The rule was incorrectly applied.

If you call that "maintaining possession" then every in-and-out of the hands incomplete pass is a fumble I guess That ball was in his hand for a millisecond, that's not maintained.

I can't blame the ref for throwing the flag, I had to watch it a second time to see he just used his hand to push him down. But the league fine is absolutely ridiculous.

Most sports are this way. The actual action of the sport is generally a fraction of the run time of the game. I agree the NFL has gotten really bad about this, but its not like other sports are really much different.

The problem is, he had already done what would have constituted a catch for a touchdown before letting go. The rule they used to overturn it also clearly says they were wrong in doing so.

Item 3: End Zone Catches. If a player catches the ball while in the end zone, both
feet must be completely on the ground before losing possession, or the pass is incomplete.

If you call that "maintaining possession" then every in-and-out of the hands incomplete pass is a fumble I guess That ball was in his hand for a millisecond, that's not maintained.

If you can look at that catch and say he didn't do everything that is necessary for it to be ruled a touchdown prior to when he let go of the ball you're just an idiot. He catches the ball and gets two feet down, then falls to the ground, all while clearly having control of the ball. That alone would constitute a touchdown.

I'm a huge basketball fan but some of the final minutes of a game can be downright brutal. 20 seconds of game clock can take 20 minutes of "real time" when you account for fouls and timeouts.

This guy is a beast. I was able to play against him in HS. I was a guard and a center while he was playing. He typically played nose guard and I played right up on him.

Not fun at all. I was 6'3 and 170lbs at the time.

I can only imagine the hurt he puts on QBs now that he's receiving top level athletic training.
