People say pre season is worthless.
The first game might be worthless but the rest are not.

Many teams played their entire 1st stringers last week for the first half of the game.
(Some might have held out their super stars after the first few drives)

As the pre season continues the starters will remain in the game longer.

While the coaching schemes may be vanilla, pre season gives you a very good idea at the physical talent of players against other known talent.

Seeing new talent is about the best you get. But even then it's very iffy because different teams have different strats as to when/how long to keep the starters in. Often you'll see starters vs. 2nd/3rd string or wild mixes. 3rd string QB, starter WR vs 2nd string defense.

Who cares if the QB made a great pass against 2nd string D; the starting WR left them in the dust. Shit like that makes it hard to evaluate the QB.

Also, most teams rest their starters in the last one. 3rd week is your best chance to see starters vs. starters for about half a game.

I completely disagree.
It is very easy to evaluate many aspects of QB play in preseason such as proper blitz pickup, correct read progressions, pocket presence, playbook knowledge, ect.

The same can be said about any other position.

Just because it isn't first team means nothing. If the WR doesn't run the correct rout but is still open shows the coaching staff something. If the RB bounces around on their feet and is unable to hit holes but can gain yards that coaching staff see that as well.

Just because players might be "well" means nothing. It takes looking at the game tape and looking at 1:1 match ups to determine a players ability.

While it might not be as exciting as games do not count, it is certainly exciting to see the growth of a team and position challenges.

Bears looked like their O-Line didn't even take the field. Right where they left off last year.

Colts:

1st team O is looking very sharp. Peyton is Peyton, and Addai looks determined this year making some very nice runs. Pass blocking is still in question, and Ugoh filling in at LT just doesn't have the IT factor that Charlie Johnson did.

2nd team O and beyond has been somewhat questionable. A lot of drops by guys that have potential to earn a roster spot, and very poor blocking (both pass/run blocking) results in added pressure for Painter and Brown. Offensive line depth is gonna have to step up big time if injuries pile up, and there are some older guys on the line so injuries tend to become more likely.

1st team defense looked great in the couple games I saw. Not sure how long Sanders will be healthy, but we'll just have to see. Good depth along the DL, and while Hughes (this year's 1st rounder) will probably take some time to develop, he could minimize the loss of a Freeney or Mathis should that happen this year. All in all, I like most of what I've seen defensively, and that's surprising as most years the defense hasn't really been all that special.

Jury is still out on the Giants. They've got beat on a few long passes which scare me, because that's where teams were able to amass a huge amount of points against them last year.

The D-Line looks to be performing better but still wondering about the depth in their secondary and how well they can cover speed.

Their offense looks a little shaky. Pass protection does not look like the caliber it was two years ago, and I'm still not sure about Jacobs. Bradshaw should be #1 this year on their team if he keeps healthy.

The best thing about the Giants this year is their receiving which is unfortunate because their system depends on power-football and running. Eli adapted well last year, but not good enough in the red zone and surely not good enough to overcome the points scored against them. They just seem like a team in transition right now , and rationally thinking, I'd have to predict them making wild card at best.

Being a faithful fan though, the Giants always seem to be doing their best coming from behind.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
