actually i've been a pats fan for 30+ years.

i didn't see the reggie wayne incident you speak of but i think all qbs do what you describe to some extent.

what i was saying was i've never seen him sell a teammate out in the media.

And i said he didn't do it directly to the media, but he ALWAYS blames his receivers on the field when things don't go right.

BTW, this is what i was talking about

http://vault.sportsillustrated...e/MAG1105697/index.htm

He went so far as to give Manning a shove on the sideline after the two had argued near the end of a 27-24 loss to the Jaguars.

RIGHT NOW being the key word. THIS SEASON who has been better.

Eli and Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Brit Farve, and Orton are better so far this season.

I could see making a case for Manning, Brees, and maybe Favre, but Orton and Eli both have more than half a dozen QBs playing better than they are, including Ben. Of the 15 statistical categories measured on NFL.com, Ben is only beaten by Eli in 3 of them and Orton in 2.

Through six weeks of play this season the top 5 performing QBs are (IMO):

1. Peyton (has yet to have a game with less than 300 yards and is top 5 in many categories even with only playing 5 games due to a bye and is on pace to break the passing yards and completion % records)

2. Roethlisberger (like Peyton, he's also on pace to break 5000+ yards and is also on pace to break the completion % record. The QB who "just wins" is also racking up the stats, go figure, hate away)

3. Brees (I'd put Brees #2 if he didn't have back to back weeks below 200 yards with 0 TD passes, so Peyton and Ben are ahead of him because of their far more consistent play)

4. Brady (week 6 is likely a pretty big outlier, but given that it is Brady it seems safe to say we'll be seeing more of the old Brady more than the mediocre one we had in the first five weeks)

5. Schaub (take away his abysmal week 1 performance and he might actually be #1, I kid you not)

I just wanted to say that I giggle every time I drive by a car with the bumper sticker, "We'll never forget you, Brent!" I live in WI, where they wish they could. LOL

BEARS!

Ummm, then why don't they? If completing 10 & outs gets you a ring, rather than a bunch of losses, it seems that everyone capable of doing that all day long would do so.

"He is not an (sic) good passer" - his statistics and your opinion are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Fail-thread.

He has 2 rings.

buuuuut, I'll take a stab.

Brees
Favre
Peyton
Rivers
Ryan
and from the looks of it right now....Orton :Q

lol Rivers? Really? You've gotta be from SD.

Ben R through 6 games: 150 Completions/207 attempts (72.5%), 1887 yards, 9.1 average. 10 TDs/6 INT, 104.5 QB Rating

Rivers through 5: 108/183 (59.0), 1519, 8.3, 7/3, 91.8

Ryan through 5: 101/156 (64.7), 1162, 7.4, 9/4, 95.6

Ben has 2 rushing TDs but has also lost 2 fumbles while Rivers and Ryan both have one TD, no fumbles.

Ben has 1.5 turnovers per game but he also averages over 300 yards.

The Steelers are 4-2 without their best defensive player, Falcons are 4-1, Chargers are 2-3.

Orton is playing well and his stats are good right now but no way I say he's a better QB than Ben R at this point.

Of course I was being facetious about Orton, and no, I'm not from SD (I'm from Raleigh

I think Ben is a great QB, no doubt. i ignore the people that criticize him for a career of ho-hum stats, b/c, well, real football isn't about fantasy stats--it's about performance on the field and he's an awesome QB leading a team. I happen to think, and have seen, that Phillip Rivers has both of those qualities, however, more than Ben. This is what, the first time in any season where Ben has surpassed Rivers in terms of numbers? I don't imagine it will stay that way (Rivers was top QB rating last year), but you never know with a Norv Turner-coached team.

I am a fan of this list, but I think Favre has been showing up Warner rather consistently. Also, Matt Ryan is real solid (Though Phillip is my guy)

Was close to picking Ryan, but he is only in his second year and has never had to play without a running back or an OLine like Rivers has. Could you imagine if he was behind the Denver line last night and had that much time to throw?

yes. that would have been....entertaining--for those of us not pulling for SD.

That's pretty damn funny and I'm sure it's intentional. It wouldn't be funny otherwise; it would just be lame.

I also learned last night that Chucky seems to have a hard-on for Rivers in the same way that Madden has for Favre. Anyone else pick up on that?

I have bolded the only QBs in your list which are even close to or are better than Ben. oh and if your wondering why I didnt bold mcnabb... it takes more skill to continuosly throw 10 yard outs, than 6 yard lobs and 2 yard screens.

Just wondering why you excluded Brees.

Brees is a good accurate passer, but im not sure of his ability to lead game winning drives under pressure like the others.

It's intentionally, Brent, with a little pic of the former fudgepacker great.

Steelers fans are so funny...

There are clearly some tiers of QBs here... taking into account careers of effort Ben Roethlisberger doesn't come anywhere close to the top tier of passers...

Top Tier guys:
Brett Favre
Tom Brady
Drew Brees

and that's it...

Big Ben is an excellent QB no doubt... but he's not on the same level as the guys listed above. He just isn't.

Of the new guys... I think there's a few QBs who have the potential to be great ones.

Jay Cutler
Matt Ryan
Joe Flacco
Aaron Rogers
Eli Manning
Phillip Rivers

Will they make it? Really to hard to tell.

Manning
Brady
Brees
Big Ben
Rivers
Favre
Warner
Eli

Ryan is still too early to tell, I think Mcnabb still has a huge upside if the team gets it together. Mcnabb, Big Ben, Warner have been underrated their whole careers. Eli really needs to be more consistent and without that fluke Super Bowl catch he'd be nothing.

Another vote for Ben. He may not make the highlight reels as often as Manning and Brady, but he knows what it takes to win football games, and that's what it comes down to in the end.

That was easy.

Now the real honors. Obviously you don't watch much college football. Pike from Cincinnati is probably the best professional prospect in college football right now (if he can stay healthy). Also, Philip Rivers should probably be put in the Crafty Vet category. He's not really a new guy anymore. Peyton Manning is an old timer.

Soon to be NFLers:
Tony Pike

New Crop:
Matt Ryan

Crafty Vets:
Carson Palmer - No QB means more to their team than Carson Palmer
Peyton Manning (if I have to use your categories)

Old Timers:
Peyton Manning (He's on his way down and no longer peaking)
Brett Favre (If you force me to use your choices)

As for best now? Peyton. No questions. His understanding of the game, work ethic, and execution are second to no one.

He's second only to TO in blaming his team for everything that goes wrong too.
you give pats fans a bad name.

i've never seen peyton sell his teammates out, aside from calling vandejagt an idiot (which he was).

as far as ben goes, i said a couple years back i'd take him on my team any day.

He didn't say Vanderjaagt was an idiot, just said he was a "sorry ass kicker". LOL. It was funny, though.

There's no way you can talk about Ben in the same light as Manning and Brady... you just can't... First of all Brady has won way more football games than Ben, so that alone trumps your "he just wins baby" argument...

And Peyton Manning... for god's sake he is one of the best QBs to ever play the game. It's just ridiculous to put Ben in that same conversation. I think Ben is a great QB don't get me wrong... but he's not Manning/Brady level.
