NFL Rant: Why so many Tony Romo-Homo's?

I just don't get it. This guy did OK in the last 8 games of the season. Then they send him to the Pro Bowl (WTF?). Now people are tauting him as the great savior of the Cowboys. Am I missing something? I never saw anything out of him that made it seem like he deserved so much attention.

It seems to me that the Romo hype was huge for maybe the first 4-6 games, then really died down, especially in the playoffs. I think he was successful because defenses had no tape of his to review so they had to play somewhat vanilla. Most teams were probably prepared for Statue Drew Bledsoe, and when Romo started moving around in and out of the pocket it threw off the first few teams.

I think he's an ok QB who still has plenty to prove. Hardly a savior.

As for the Pro Bowl, there are tons of Cowboy fans out there, and it's largely a popularity contest. Not a huge surprise he was picked, who else would've gone for the NFC?

The Big D hasn't had a noteworthy QB since Aikman retired. It's been nothing but washed up nobodies that have no marketable appeal.

Romo is young, charming, and brings some energy to the team. Dallas fans have been longing for that type of player for almost a decade now.

QFT

I like him because he seems to have a knack for executing plays I thought were already dead.

He's neither fantastic not crappy. We'll see this year. I actually like him but I hate the Cowboys so whatever.

The Tony Romo hype almost ruined sports for me. It was worse than the Ben Worthlessberger hype.

to most people, he did better than just ok in most of those games. he was better than bledsoe, and got the cowboys to the playoffs. if it weren't for that botched hold they would have gone even deeper. as far as the pro bowl thing, who else from the NFC deserved to go?

let's go through the qbs...
leinart - no where near pro bowl numbers
vick - too many dropped passes and fumbles
delhome - one of his worst years yet
grossman - lol, nuff said
kitna - did ok, not pro bowl numbers
favre - too many interceptions, not enough wins
brad johnson/tavaris jackson - um, yeah both bad
eli manning - much worse than romo
mcnabb - would have taken the 3rd qb spot if not for injury
alex smith - much better than rookie year, but still not great
hasslebeck - could maybe be argued, but didn't have nearly as good a year as 05
tampa bay qbs - um right
jason campbell - not even close

of all the nfc qbs, the only one you could "maybe" argue is hasslebeck. i'm no romo or cowboys fan, but to say he wasn't deserving of the pro bowl after the numbers he put up is silly.

I have no clue who Tony Romo is, but I find the term "Tony Romo-Homo" hilarious. Kudos.

I'm honestly surprised that the mods haven't said anything yet. I thought calling things (or people) gay wasn't allowed anymore.

Yes, a play that had nothing to do with his QB ability.

only missed a few games though, yes? if he had played those games, his stats still weren't great by any means.

*edit* romo only played 1 more game than hasslebeck

Well, holding onto a ball has a LITTLE something to do with his QB ability

big part of it is Romo was a nobody for years. he was usually so far on the depth cart that nobody cared about him.

That was until last year. then he had a pretty damn good year for a "nobody". IF not for that botched kick he would have went pretty far. He did a hell of a lot better then many veteran QB's.

Meh Hasslebeck isn't really that good anyway.

he's been an all-pro quarterback. only reason for comparison. btw, what's a stiller? like ben stiller?
