Since Peyton? Are you implying that Peyton had a good rookie year? He was horrendous his rookie year...

The Colts had a horrendous year in 1998, but Manning set several rookie records -- I believe TDs, yards, and INTs (a dubious record, to be sure). He had a fair season.

While Peyton might have shown more signs as to becoming a prolific passer his rookie season, his INTs really hurt the team, something QBs like Flacco, Ryan, and Roethlisberger avoided.

To say he had the best rookie season for a QB and that no one did any better is asinine. You can have the fastest and most impressive split times in a race but if you don't cross the finish line then its all for naught. Flacco and Roethlisberger made it to the AFC Championship game in their respective rookie seasons. Sure, they didn't put up super impressive numbers to get the team there, but they did make the throws asked of them and avoided the ones that would have hurt their team.

exactly. just starting games does not make you great. dont get me wrong he is a heck of a quarterback and a lot of fun to watch(i am a packers fan in WI so i have watched him play alot) but for all the greatness, way to many time dumb things happened. To often he would play hurt when the team might have been better off with him on the sideline, or make dumb decisions such as all those interception. In a must win game i would take manning any day of the week. <- and that comes from a guy who used to hate manning with a passion.

As a life-long Packer fan myself, I've not feeling the love for Brett in a Viking uniform (and am happy the Vikings lost last week). I'll also admit that it's hard to argue that Peyton and Tom aren't great quarterbacks. Still, I have to say that Brett should be right up there with them. Without a doubt he has to be the greatest QB over the past TWO decades!

IMHO "just starting" that many games -- especially as a quarterback -- is a testament to his durability (and his enthusiasm for the game). That alone may not make him "great", but anyone who looks at the list of records he's set over his career has got to be impressed. Yes, he's certainly thrown his share of interceptions; but the Packers haven't had a lot of talented players during Brett's time in Green Bay and he's had to play agressively almost every game to give us a chance at winning. Given a better supporting cast, Brett could have matched Peyton and Tom in Super Bowl bling.

Put me down with Madden on this one!

Flacco and Roethlesberger where rookie's on very good teams and neither where asked to do too much, Manning was not on a very good team when he was a rookie, apples/oranges.

He had one monster year and then several good ones (I thought he'd fallen off more than he had, but he had several solid years). The problem is, most of the other big name backs that aren't on that list didn't have as many good years. Larry Johnson had 2 good years. Priest Holmes had 3 good years. Peterson, Chris Johnson, and several of the ones that have come on strong the last few years haven't been around long enough to put them in yet.

Tony Richardson really deserves some credit, although I can't fault going with Neal, both are the type of fullbacks that coaches dream about having.

I don't see how you can argue against Brady deserving to be there. I'd take him over every other QB but Manning. What other QB has 3 rings and 4 Super Bowl appearances that decade? Who would you people take over Brady?

I'd take Ricky Williams over Lewis

I seriously thought that when Favre "came out" of retirement this last time, Madden would also come out of retirement just to work his games.

I was expecting him to come out of retirement to call a Favre-featured superbowl.

Torry Holt over Hines Ward I think not.

yes, absolutely. Holt was well past Jerry Rice's pace for yards, catches, TDs before the Rams went completely anemic, and Holt got injured. I believe he was the first (only?) WR to post some 750+ yards for each of first 10 seasons in league number or some such.

Ward had a great superbowl, and a few big games. But season to season, nowhere near the level, or even consistency of guys like Holt, Moss, or Harrison.

Drew Brees should've gotten some mention though he wasn't as prolific as Manning and Brady. He has a 5000 yd passing season for pete's sake. He'd also probably be up there if with them if NO's defenses weren't made out of swiss cheese. The SD teams he was on had crappy defenses as well. Give him a decent defense and he's playing in the SB.

Also comparing Painter's numbers with Roethliberger and Flacco is like comparing a 6th round pick with a 1st round pick. Wait... that's exactly what it is. Essentially any qb picked after the 2nd round is considered a "project".
