Nforce or KT266?

i am debating about what to get next. I was planning on getting an Nforce based board but have heard very good things about the KT266 chipset and wondering what you think. And I am not an avid VIA hater either. Built 2 systems Abit KA7 and A7V both 100% stable and also an Epox 8k7a.

Also will Palomino/Athlon 4 be fully compatible (ie internal diode) with NForce/KT266?
Time is also a consideration since i move out August 26 for college and I would like to have a system built by them but am willing to wait to mid-late september if a better solution is just around the corner.

The nForce s/b out around the same time as the desktop palomino so it only stands to reason that it will be compatible with the internal diode. I personally would suggest waiting to see what the nForce offers when it comes out. The higher end one will have dual channel DDR which no other AMD chipsets have right now and awesome built in sound which is also a first, so I say wait and see what the reviews say for stability/performance vs. the KT266/AMD760/SiS735 chipsets.

I'm looking forward to the nForce, but as NelsonMuntz said, the only real way to know is to see tests/reviews.

At this point any info on nForce will be speculation, you'll have to wait until the reviews come out.

Well, it would look as tho SiS's solution will definetly be faster than what we have right now...but, will it be faster than the nforce?

Another thing to think about...its very likely that the SiS solution will be much cheaper than the nforce...so...i guess we are gonna have to look at the benchmarks and compare speed and price....

I'm thinking nForce for myself. When the nForce is released I'm going to get it + 512mb of DDR (2 256mb sticks for the dual channel) so that I can move the 256mb of SDR I have in my current system down to another computer of mine (which only has 32mb right now ). Of course I might change my mind if nForce ends up costing an insane amount. Afterall Shuttle has a KT266 board for ~$90 right now. I don't think I could justify spending twice as much for nForce. I could swing about $130 though.

Nforce blows away KT266! Did you see Nvidia's comparison between the Nforce and the KT266. It was a considerable margain!

all numbers put out by nvidia show them beating their competition by a wide margin... its marketing, after all.

You're going to college soon? get a computer built ASAP. If you aren't really sure on the chipset, you can always down grade but it's way too soon to be considering a Nforce. School starts pretty soon for you and parts take about a week from the time you order it to the time it gets to your house.
