yeh but you'll be lucky to nab a nforce 4 board for 150 when its first launched. itll probably be in the upwards of the 180'ish range.
[/quote]

you are kidding, right ? i consider a mb over $100 already pricey. $180 would be insane....

nF4 SLI - supports SATA 2, 2 x PCI-E, 1G HTT, Socket 939
nF4 Ultra - supports SATA 2, 1 x PCI-E, 1G HTT, Socket 939
nF4 - supports SATA, AGP 8x, 1G HTT, Socket 939
nF4 scaled edition - supports SATA, 800MHz HTT, Socket 754

if this is true that will TRULY suck.

that means that pci-ex is only available on S939 and the expensive ultra board and the 'scaled' version w/ the 754 does not support pci-ex, NEITHER SATA-2 nor 1 G HTT.

What on earth then is the purpose of the lower-end nf4 ?

And the S939 boards might come double as expensive because you/i pay for features i dont really need AND in addition need a S939 CPU...which makes the whole thing EXPENSIVE.

I really would want to to go socket 754 because i dont care about 5% more performance and pay premium for a A64 3500 if an S754 is as good too. And pci-ex is a MUST for my next build.....hmmm

EDIT:

further investigation tells me that the low-end board should have pci-ex too.... hmmmm

from what iv read it shouldnt matter at all what socket the motherboard maker chooses. sli/ultra are suppose to have automatic support for 754, its up to the manufacturer.

How many times do we have to reiterate this. It has been confirmed that a new APU will be onboard (not sure if it will be called SS2 or not), but it will be there.

I would be willing to bet that all Nforce 4's will have at least a little support for PCI-E Sckt 754 or not id be willing to bet it will.

I hope this comes out sooner than later..... I was going to order next week (my new amd64 rig) but I can wait a few weeks but if its not out within 2 weeks I am going to go 754.

same here....on the other hand....i can/will wait 'til we have decent pcie graphics cards. If there's no pcie 6800gt...well i might as well wait longer and see the board's prices drop. $180 for a mobo would be insane...

the other option would be getting the board and keeping my ATI 9800Pro til we have decent cards...hmmm...

I actually think $180 for the top of the line mobo is pretty fair. HOWEVER $261 IS freakin' insane!

Sheesh, that's more than my dual Xeon board cost.

Of course...the one that our server uses cost around $400. But that's a different class altogether.

Some sort of int. GFFX 5600 or something would be nice.

the first nForce was a good solid foot in the door, and the fact that nForce 2 was pretty much THE handsdown chipset in terms of performance, nVidia doesn't need to offer IGP as one of the main aspects of their chipsets as it first was (ie how the first nForce chipsets offered the best onboard video performance hands down)

But yeah, an integrated 6200 or something is something that would sure up the all in one motherboard market.

Why bother if Creative is about to launch the Audigy 3? I've compared SoundStorm to an Audigy and found it lacking. Having no on-board video nor audio is a plus for me.

What did you compare it with as SS is the ONLY solution that can encode in real time DD. SO i dont know how you can compare it there. As for analogue well there isn't much there of course the Audigy will be better but the SS will have lower CPU usage. Too bad they ditched it

Where is this evidence concerning the Audigy 3?

One thing that the SS nazis (ha, I made a pun ) seem to be unable to understand is how few people actually use the DD encoding. Yes, it's nice. No, no other solution has it. You know why? Because MOST PEOPLE DON'T USE IT!!!!!! If the demand is high enough, or people bitch long enough, maybe someone will make a PCI-express add on card (should be easy with all that extra bandwidth) to support it, for all you enthusiasts. For the rest of us, what we want is good sound, and low CPU utilization for gaming. Soundstorm did a good job of this, but so does Creative. I'll probably end up getting an Audigy 2 zs, or maybe wait for the next version of Audigy. And yes, I think we'll see a new line of Creative cards within the next six months, since Audigy 2's been around for a pretty long time now, especially considering the new opportunities provided by PCIe bandwidth. Until then, I'm sure I can get by with AC'97.

Well what happened here? Haven't seen any retail boards yet. You would think for Christmas they would be out by now as this is a good QTR for sales.....

Thoughts?
