NHL 15 Demo

There's a demo available on XB1 and also in some regions for PS4.

I played it on XB1 and it looks great, players have weight and momentum etc. I'm just not a fan of how slow it feels. It's smooth, but the players feel too weighed down. When you're on defense and switch players it's much harder than it should be IMO to move in for a check and it usually ends up being a breakaway. I think if they added a sprint button it would be a bit better. Perhaps more options for game speed and some slider adjustments in the full game would help.

Anyway just a heads up for those who want to try it.

oh shit thanks for this. i'll be trying it out on both. i've become a pretty big nhl fan the past few years but haven't played a game in over a decade. used to LOVE them on snes and genesis. think i played a few on psx but that was probably the last time.

Being from FL, there isn't much love for hockey here. I follow it though even though my local team will never get out of the bottom of the league. It's one of the few sports I actually enjoy watching on TV.

I think NHL 15 has potential with a few slider adjustments. I prefer a faster game speed than whatever the demo is at. There have been some comments made on other forums about the play by play commentary being bad, but I think it's alright. It has its moments.

played it on both consoles. i couldn't tell the difference between the two of them if there is any graphical difference. game is pretty fun though but it seemed a bit easy to score (granted, i was playing on beginner mode because i dont know the controls). i didn't score the first 2 periods (2 minute periods) then scored 5 times in the 3rd period.

and you can "sprint" cmdrdredd. press the stick in like you do in cod games to run. you will see him start sprinting and holding the stick out further.

i do agree with defense being hard, but the 2nd game i played (on ps4) i didn't go for the check immediately like i was doing every time when i played it on x1, and it made for no break aways. but i never really got into a defensive zone like they were doing when i was on offense.

Pressing in the stick huh? Guess it will take some getting used to. Most sports games have it mapped to the trigger or something like that.

Anyway like you, I seemed to score a lot once I got used to the pace. I guess they made the demo favorable to offensive play. I'd probably buy it, but Destiny comes out the same day. I wouldn't have time. I'll definitely be putting it on my list and maybe grab it later. With black friday and such coming up I expect to pick up on some deals for games I haven't purchased by then.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the demo. NHL 15 is a no-brainer purchase for me, being the hockey fanatic that I am.

I haven't played one since NHL11, but I'll probably get 15. It's been a really good game since the '09 release.

I hope it gets to the EA Access Vault. I'm not big on hockey, but I'd definitely try it out if it was on Access.

They claim it was a quality issue.

I see this same thing posted all over various forums but nobody has explained what it is to those who don't know (like me). What are we missing by not getting it on PS4/XB1(which are current gen consoles btw)?

EASHL/OTP = EA Sports Hockey League/Online Team Play, I assume. I had to do a quick lookup because I didn't know what it is, and the results say it was 6-on-6 competitive online play. Basically, it's like the NBA 2K My Player blacktop stuff, where the A.I. is replaced by other real-life opponents.

It also says that Connected GM is absent from the game, which I assume is like the Connected Franchise on Madden 15 though IDK if it is like the Connected Coach or the Connected Owner.

Yup. Basically EASHL is the only thing I play. GM Connected was pretty cool. It was just the Be A GM mode except you form a league and everyone makes a fantasy team.

I gave it a whirl. Same solid mechanics that I've enjoyed since NHL 09. I do agree that it feels slow though. I would definitely need to adjust game speed. It also seems like it's a lot harder to body check than the last one I played. Not bad though

Yep, my impressions exactly. It grew on me after a few tries. If we get a trial from EA access we can see if there are more options for game speed and adjust some sliders for the defense.

The arena's are designed to look like they do in real life, rather than one basic arena with different ice surfaces and clocks.

There's sliders in the demo, they're just greyed out and not moveable. I found the slider for game speed but it's just not useable in the demo.
