I'm all for violent *legal* hits. If anything, it makes game a must see to see how Chicago retaliates if down late in the game.
That's the old NHL. This is why the instigator has no place in the game either. Players used to police themselves. There used to be consequences for actions, but now it just leads to another power play for the other team and a suspension worse than the guy that acted first.
Torres got zero games, anyone that retaliates is going to get 2 minutes instigator, 5 fighting, and a 10 misconduct, and two games on top of that.
I still think that hit was dirty, even if it complied with the letter of the rule. He went shoulder to head on purpose, and that makes all the difference to me. The head contact was not incidental. I get that you want to blow a guy up when he's playing with his head down, and those are the chances you take when you hit him. That there wasn't and won't be a consequence is the problem with the new NHL.
I'm fine with no suspension even, if Chicago were free to police the incident. They aren't - anyone on that team that does anything about it will get the book thrown at them. That's the real disgrace.
