I know it's bogus. I talked to 3 different CSR and I got 3 different answers..

If you go through the link you gave in the first post, it says $8/mo for ISP now. I clicked through to read details and it says $7/mo, but if you actually want to order and add it to the cart, it'll be $8.
But it seems like I'm not even going to get the $15/mo DSL service???? who knows.. I'm very close to just cancelling the current order and starting a new one again (by phone, and not online this time).

How are you going to set something up without a server to connect to?

More importantly how are you going to connect to the net without an ISP to direct your traffic?

thanks netmamma, I think I got it all squared away. I emailed them and they said that it's $15 + $6.99 ISP = $21.99. $43.75 is just how much my total bill is, with the phone line.

The Global interLATA $5/month also needs to be added to the monthly $22 fee. Kind of reminds me of my old Metricom Ricochet modems where the taxes, levies, and local fees (like the one my city added for Ricochet wireless) made the cost half again.

DSL line without an ISP is pretty much useless.

As long as the DSL modem is getting an IP address for the Internet, I don't see why you need an ISP. That's all you need, an IP address.

I just received an advertisement in today's paper that Qwest DSL (256k) is now $26.99 a month with no activiation fee. Too bad for them--I am going cable for $30 a month at more than twice the speed.

So my local cable company (Charter) jacks up the prices for cable modem if you don't use them for cable. It appears that even if Qwest doesn't require Qwest Select service or whatever, they still require you to use their local service. Since I have DISH and am using a cell phone rather than a land line, it's really a cr@ppy deal all around. I'd almost think there should be laws against this kind of thing.

Switched from my existing Qwest Choice DSL Deluxe ($28/mo) to Qwest Choice DSL ($15/mo), and ISP from Goldengate ($13/mo) to Qwest.net Broadband Basic ($6.99/mo). They also removed my modem rental charge as I've had it for a year. Monthly Internet bill has gone down from $51/mo to $25/mo. I'm waiting to see if I can handle the slower speed. If this isn't a good post, I don't know what is. Thanks very much!

It's $22/mo ($15 for DSL line and $7 for ISP) which is a good price.

Do I still need to pay the "POTS" (plain old telephone service) fee of $25/mo just to get a dial tone and make local calls?

Qwest is an ok service. Really good for me though. About 2 years ago I got dsl through qwest installed and to this day they have yet to bill me for any service. And its still working as of today, awesome deal $0 per month for 640/256, big YMMV.

The big question is, does The Qwest Basic package only allow you to browse the web? Or do they have all ports open, and as onga s you are using 3rd party email, 3rd party newsgroup , etc....it will still work? The way they word it on there site, it kind of sounds like its for web use only, but as long as they don't have any restrictions or port blocking I am okay with it.

Anyone have any idea?

Same here.

I don't want FTP, or ports 2082, 2086, 2087, 2095, etc. to be blocked.

Do you think the regular phone service is in addition to the $22/mo?

I've used many ports--no problem. For quicktime broadcasting, iChat, and so forth.
As for services, I use a 3rd party (mindspring) NNTP, etc and no problems with those either.
