Dumb question...but will a microATX board fit into a regular-sized case?

I also have an HP Pavillion with one of those tiny cases...how would i know if this board would fit that or not? HP's site is far too proprietary, and gives very little information on the parts in older systems (i can't even find a driver download for it!).

ATX CASE will fit ATX> MicroATX > Flex ATX Mobo. Does not work the other way around (i.e. FlexATX case will not fit MicroAtx or ATX Mobo).

Thanks OP, this is a good deal.

By the way are thses "Bartons" - Thanks Mursilis

Picked up a 2600 and mobo for $92 incl shipping to NY. Pricewatch quotes $83 for just the cpu alone.

This will be perfect for the pc I'm building for my neice (once I swap the cpu with the 1600 in my pc )

Oh..this is tempting. I've been looking for something to replace the 500Mhz celeron folding machines I have.

Does anyone know if getting the 2800+ or 3000+ will benifit folding enough to justify the expense? The 2800+ with a 256MB stick of Kingston 333 comes to $165 3-day shipped to TX.

Also, can these machines boot to the network? I looked at the Soyo website and couldn't find a detailed manual.

Specs for motherboard here:

Soyo website

Onboard ethernet, sound, and video., 1 AGP 3 PCI 2 DDR

This looks hotter than the present Fry's combo deal. Fry's wants $89.95 for a bare XP2600 and the usual ECS K7VTA3 motherboard, no HSF. With sales tax (8.25% for me), that comes to $97.37. Shipped UPS Ground, this combo came out to $92.13, and it includes a HSF. And I suspicion this Soyo motherboard may be better than the ECS.

I don't need a new PC but I still buy those combos at Fry's because of the price, and the possibility that I will build one for a relative or a friend. I might have to get one of these too at this price. I like the fact that the mobos are Soyo instead of ECS.

Please stop saying good things about this combo, before I buy another

Thanks TipsyMcStagger!

Could someone help me with the memory? I would like 1GB of memory, do I need to purchase 2 512MB or can I just buy one 1024MB? Is it OK to get two of these at CC
Kingston Memory
I'll have a friend purchase the second stick so I won't void the MIR.

Thanks

Ummm, that doesn't help me much(I'm not to bright). I thought I've read for DDR to work right that you need to populate both memory banks. If so, then I would get 2 512MB as opposed to 1 1024MB. So, does that memory at CC (see my earlier post) work for this MB?

Thanks

For those of us who are addicted - YES
Figure that folding on ANY box costs about $60/yr. Upping your production by a factor of 5 or 6 should be worthwhile.

2x512 would be more economical(1x512 would be sufficient) than buying a 1GB stick and the Kingston will be fine.

I think thats just for enabling DUAL channel DDR which isnt available on this board. To my knowledge the only AMD boards that support that are some NFORCE2's and the KT880's.

Normal DDR should work fine with either configuration. Ofcourse you'll want to get some DDR 333 PC2700 memory to match the speed of the FSB.

I think this is a good candidate for my 1st system I'd like to build, but my question is:

Is it possible for me to put a decent sound card on this mobo rather than use the integrated one? If yes, is it gonna be a pain in the arse?

TIA

Hi fellas,
Great deal TipsyMcStagger. I got in on one for myself(3000) and for my friend(2600). Shipping and tax =( added $30 cooled it down a bit. Average shipping cost is over $10 and if you are in CA there is 8.25% tax.
Thanks again.
