I got 2 of the 2600 combo's, one of the 2600's will not do the stock xp2600 speed without crashing windows no matter how high i crank the volts. Even in my good abit NF7. The other overclocks a bit to 2150.

But since they were a good deal it's hard to complain.

Just got my board in with some Kingston ram 1G on the 512x2 option. Board freezes at startup. I hear a beep, then it recognizes monitor and the first thing I see is:

"Checking NVRAM.." That's it. Just hangs there.

Also, I noticed it shows the AMD running at 1250mhz. I remove the cpu jumper and it goes to AMD 2200mhz. Weird.

Any suggestions?

I got mine friday (just got back from visiting family)... put the 2600+ (definitely a tbred, not barton) in my a7n8x deluxe and its working like a dream

Haven't tried the mobo yet... I ordered a case at the same time (planning to build a pc for my neice) and it arrived with a decorative DENT in the side panel!!! Anyway, rang mwave this afternoon... courier coming to pick up damaged case and a new one is on the way.

The sticker on the motherboard says that it only supports 1.5 volt AGP cards... Does that mean it doesn't support 8x AGP?

Got the 2600+, its a Tbred.

If you haven't already, try clearing CMOS.

Strange board.

Get a proper 12x multiplier on a cold boot, and then get a 12.5x multiplier on every warm boot. This is with my old Morgan Duron 1 GHz cut and pencilled to 12x 1.85 VCore at a 100 Mhz FSB (Win98se). WcpuId confirms the 12.5x 1250 Mhz reboots. The multiplier does not rise on warm boots when I use an AGP card and stop using the onboard KM400 video.

KM400 video plays DVD's ok but lacks hardware T&L for good gaming (no surprise). Onboard 2 channel AC97 sound is ok. LAN and USB ports work.

GeForce AGP cards are giving me trouble ATM. Going to try an Athlon XP to see if the system is more stable at 133 and 166 MHz.

No Vcore or multi adjustments on board. Too many shared IRQ's under Win98se. No joystick port. This isn't going to replace my NForce2's, and that rebate better show up.

I'm debating whether to use this board or my old Tyan Trinity KT333 with the new processor.

This Soyo should be adequate though... Even if the motherboard is a complete piece of crap, its still a good deal. It cost what the processor by itself costs without the mail in rebate.

I gave up on this the other day for now. At first heatsink fan wouldn't spin. Plugging in the aux cable solved that. Sometimes I would get a beep but nothing on the monitor. Other times no beeps. Had two HDs installed, tried one HD. Nothing. Just using the onboard graphics, no NIC or sound card installed. Played with jumpers, removed CMOS battery, etc...Now I complicated my PC, and my life, by installing SuSE linux. Why? I'm not a tech geek. My Kingston RAM I purchased at bestbuy was returned. Will try the Spectrek that's on sale this week from OM.
I've read at the soyo site that you may have to hold down the insert key when booting up. I paid mwave to test this so I think the combo works, I just have to figure out what combo will work with my two HDs and some memory. Will try later in the week. But a little depressed that it's not up and running.

Would trying to install this on a blank HD help? If I get this up and running should I reinstall XP, then the drivers for the MB? Or install the MB drivers then XP?

I'm confused, are you saying there's no video? Or have you gotten the combo to boot but can't install an operating system?

I wouldn't plug in anything but these: CPU + Heatsink/Fan + Memory. You can install the HD later when the machine actually boots.

What's the power rating on your power supply? Not just the total watts but the breakdown of each (12V, 5V, etc.)? These are listed on the side of the power supply.

People have posted that trying different memory sticks solved their problems so maybe the Spectek will help.

I had problems getting my combo to work when I first received it. I had to pull out the CMOS battery (which you already tried) plus I noticed the FSB jumper diagram in the manual is rotated incorrectly compared to the motherboard.

Good luck.

I should start from the beginning.

When I recieved the package, the first thing I noticed was that the cpu had a couple slightly bent pins, enough that it wouldn't go into the socket. I fixed that and tried to boot up, no luck. I tried the jumpers, clearing the cmos, different memory (though my only 2 sticks are both the same model kingston ram), nothing. I didn't try insert though, I'll have to try that later. But I tried the processor in my motherboard that I'm using now, and it wouldn't boot. And I tried my processor that I'm using now in their motherboard, and nothing then either. They can't both be bad... I don't think I'm doing anything wrong but it must be something I'm not trying.

The furthest I've gotten is a beep and the light on my monitor went from green to amber Nothing on the monitor. I haven't tried starting it without a HD. Some time this week when I get the new memory will will try booting up using your suggestion above.
After each mistake is it best to reset the jumper/pins near the CMOS battery?
Also what is the easiest way to remove those damn plastic jumper things that cover the pins. I can hardly get them off my HDs.

Thanks

The plastic pieces covering the pins are jumpers. Tweezers are useful for pulling them out.

Did you get around to looking up the power supply rating? In the past, I had problems with a weak generic power supply. It was able to power up the motherboard's CPU fan but it didn't have enough juice to power the video. Maybe this could be your situation. Perhaps the rail ratings are too weak on your power supply (they'll be listed on the side as 12V, 5V, etc.)

Amen! I used to love MWave. I've spent several thousands on components there over the last few years and everything was always great. But their service has gone way downhill. My emails to them pose very simple questions yet the answers I receive are nearly impossible to understand. They were too incompetent to figure out how to verify my shipping address with my credit card company, so I had to spend 45 minutes on the phone with my credit card company confirming all the info that I had on file with them and then learning how to verify addresses like a merchant. Then I had to write out a step-by-step email to MWave on how to verify my address (dial 2231432324, press 1, press 2, enter CC #, press 3, enter zip code, etc.). That is never something a customer should have to deal with! Then MWave cancelled one of the two orders that I had pending with them because the item went out of stock. This pisses me off because they had already charged my CC but were just holding the order until they could verify my shipping address. Somewhere in the meantime, they sold my item to someone else. Hopefully they know how to recredit a credit card.

Could very well be, I'll know tomorrow when a new and hopefully working power supply arrives. It's not the ram, I removed the ram and did not get a beep. I tried the insert butting thing and taking out the battery, and tried the fsb jumper again. Nothing helped.

The power supply I used to test it is currently powering my Duron 1200 system, so it can't be that weak.

I might just build a new one. I'm starting to get bored of my dimension 8250 p2.4ghz(wink wink). Feels slow and the memory is damn expensive.

rather then shelling out $100 for a new memory, I think I might buy this combo, stick it in my old enlight case, and just come up with a new one. I guess the only problem will be the price of a damn graphic card.

That is why I always build my own, I don't care much about the money but I care about the way my system runs and having the freedom to do anything I want to do with it!!!!

After reading this thead I now see that the P4 connector is a requirement . I guess I need to upgrade cases w/PS anyway since the ones I was planning to use were 6yrs old with 250 watt no name PSUs . Any links to suitable ( plain jane - color and "windows" are not impt" , just PS cabaple of running this mobo combo, HD, DVDR ) budget price case shipped are appreciated .

Hmm... do you think this board will be ok powered by just a normal atx psu (no P4 connector) if its just a 1600+, 256MB ram, dvdrom, hdd, and fdd? (no extra boards)

The motherboard needs both power connectors to run. The athlon xps require more power than the normal atx connector gives.
You run the risk of burning out the processor or the motherboard.
I picked up a cheap htpc case off ebay for 60$. It came with a 300w psu w/p4 connector.

My problem is that windows 2k and xp does not work with it. I keep getting code 35 errors in xp because it cannot get enough information from the firmware to activate the device. windows 2000 just keeps getting errors saying it can't change the video settings or update settings with anything. Linux appears to be working fine, but I would like to find out what if anyone has had these problems with the motherboard.

How can you say athlon xps require more power than the normal atx connector gives... I have 2 machines running right now... one with a 1600+ XP, other with a 2600+ XP... one has a Asus A7V8X and the other has a Asus A7N8X Deluxe... neither motherboard has the p4 connector.... I really doubt that two standard asus motherboards (KT400 and nForce2 chipset based) would be lacking a supposedly required feature that would cause the processor or motherboard to burn out.

I was asking if the Soyo motherboard requires the p4 connection or not due to some of the comments posted above.

The 2600+ combo I got would not work with my previous power supply. The old power supply was generic, did not have a P4 connector but did power my 700mhz AMD just fine. The rail supply was 12V(10A), 5V(25A), and 3.3V(14A). I went and bought a new 300W Antec which did have a P4 connector and the Mwave combo started up.

I don't think there's a hard and fast rule regarding needing the P4 connector. Still, for those who's combo's aren't working and who do not have a P4 connector from the power supply, it might be the fix you need.

The extra p4 conector provides extra current on the 12volt rail.
It provides extra current to the processor and is recommended.
However, some motherboards provide enough power to keep the system going
and users won't have problems without the extra connector.
The real risk is in having inconsistent voltage supplied to your components.
This can lead to intermittent problems, such as spontaneous reboots or blue screens.

I haven't looked up the specs for the new bartons, but i was thinking the newer bartons
might require more power than the previous thoroughbred cpus.

For this motherboard, it is most likely required.
