Nice weather for a stroll outside

I've always enjoyed evenings during a heavier snow. It's nice and quiet out and the snow puts a nice clean blanket over everything. I couldn't go too far since I've been sick the last couple of days but a few places still have some holiday lights up

Oh hell no. The only place I'd want to walk with weather like that is onto an airplane headed for Maui.
Or if you can't make it to Maui a nice spot close to the fire is also hard to beat on a cold night.

Pft the images would probably be a lot sharper if it was. Kinda dark out this time of year so the only shots even remotely good were near some light sources

You just need the right clothes. I was perfectly comfortable outside

Yup that's the good stuff...it's like a liminal space, but without being creepy. Just...peaceful.

TIL what liminal space is.

So back when I did on site technical implementations for large Universities we would often do site surveys during the winter semester so we could do the work in the summer when these schools would shrink by 25k-50k people. So towards the end of the semester I'd be in these huge buildings with literally thousands of people moving around every hour. It was usually loud and a little chaotic. Then in the summer I'd come back to these same buildings that had been teeming with people and see literally no one anywhere in these huge buildings for hours. Even better most of them had sensored lights so I'd open the door to a dark, long, wide hallway and all the lights would flicker on like the most cliche of horror movies. And then they'd suddenly go dark again after 'too long' of no motion detected. I got used to it but the first couple of times I was pretty sure I was in a zombie or horror movie

The craziest might be Des Moines Iowa though. I was there at 3pm on a Sunday. My hotel was attached to their rather impressive elevated pedestrian 'skywalk' network so decided to stroll through it - and never saw another person again until I went outside. The lights were on, the space nicely air conditioned, bathrooms unlocked. Hell - even the coffee stand was open. I could have walked in and made myself a cup. 3 story atrium with shops and foot court? Vacant. Bridge after bridge connecting buildings? Vacant. Long hallways inside buildings with shops? Vacant. It was wild - I just wandered around for like 2 hours completely by myself

your snow walk reminded me of one that my brother and I took when I was 10~12.
He got up quietly at midnight and tried to sneak out, but little brother here busted him
The snow was 6~10" deep and huge flakes were falling, illuminated by the sodium lights on the barns and garages. We trudged off silently, but for the scrunch scrunch of our steps.
I had no idea what the mission was, but I was down for it. We walked a half mile or so and then headed off across country, through fences and large pastures.
Somebody spotted us! He turned on more lights and then started spotlighting the area with a large flashlight.
We burrowed down in the deep snow, in a hollow, and waited him out. Perhaps he thought we were breaking into his barn and going to steal some tack or something, who knows. Phil never told me the nature of the mission and I think it was what transpired, an adventure in the snow at midnight.
Once the rancher went back in, we belly down scurried backward like we saw in the movies, then returned home. Nothing was said.
The next day the nosy next door neighbor spoke of somebody out late and up to no good, and he could see where the tracks led.
He was a self righteous asshole and my parents ignored him.

I missed the post about Liminal spaces and thought I'd add to it. I recently learned of the concept myself, and now I notice them more. I always felt a certain vibe in such spaces but could never really put my finger on it.

One of the halls at my work. Chair chilling at the end really completes it.

Crawlspace under my garage. Interestingly some of the stuff I added such as the lights and the conduits really add to it.

My workplace parking lot today.

Also anyone remember that castle in SMB 3 with all the bricks that you can then turn into coins in world 7? Was often used as a "unlimited 1 up" level. There were no enemies and nothing in it was active such as the candles. That always gave me a weird creepy vibe. Never realized until now that whole castle is basically a liminal space.

Big snowstorms in the urban areas around here are so beautiful to walk in while they are happening or shortly after they end.

I've been in NYC for some big storms and it was magical.

Haven't gotten many big snowfalls though in the last decade.

One Christmas we went to my niece's place in Ballard. It was snowing, and we went home about midnight and drove home through downtown Seattle. That was nice, all the lights and lighted cranes, and no people.
EDIT: By through I mean down 2nd or 3rd Ave southbound all the way down to the stadiums.

When I see it snowing like that or after a snow I always want to go outside for a walk. This year I'm patiently waiting for a nice snow to watch 30 Days of Night, The Thing, The Forth Kind, The Day After Tomorrow, Aliens VS Predator, Wind River, etc.

I love how the snow absorbs a lot of the noise and can finally have a bit of silence sometimes, though all the cars, plows, trucks, etc on all the roads close by as well as the occasional airplane overhead ruin the peace. That said, its not been too bad here. So far only about a foot of snow and temps really havent dipped below -20. So, i wear long pants, boots, a jacket, an extra layer gloves, hat, etc when I go outside. Havent been wearing my shorts or sandals this week, but Its supposed to climb all the way back above freezing in a week or so.
