What are you doing posting in forums other than ATOT between midnight and 6am? :|
Recommending to a guy he should spend $2000 on a computer and get a decent sound system instead of buying a $3000 computer. It didn't work. He's giving me the old "my z-5500s are awesome" excuse.
But.....but....they are awesome, aren't they?
BAN!
Honestly I wouldn't mind having a set of Z-5500's, but I agree that you might want to spend just a little more than $200 on speakers if you're going to blow $3k on a computer...
Its not the price its the quality. All computer speakers blow. Some just a little more.
But... but... but... what about Swan?
Yeah I shouldn't have used the word "all." How about "most" instead? IMO Z-5500's are the Bose of the computer speaker market (even though they are probably better than Bose, heh).

I don't think Logitech is like bose. They're both pretty crappy, but you get what you pay for with the Logitechs. It may not be great, but it sure is affordable. For what the 5500s offer (powerful 5.1 system with digital decoding), I think they're a great buy.
As far as the unsubstantiated boasting about having the best stuff, then yeah, I'm with you on that one
I just have to wander into AVSforum for 2 minutes to remind myself my own $2400 HT setup is a POS too lol.

You are right about price but I was thinking of the consumer attitude. I grew up with an audiophile for a dad. Local stereo shops used our house for demos of their equipment. We had crazy expensive stuff that we could use for free because they wanted to demo it. I'm talking like 50K cd players. Its insane what people will pay for this stuff.

Yeah, I thought computers were bad. You can easily spend tens of thousands of dollars in the audio industry and still be nowhere near "the best".

Once you achieve an amp that's 'straight line with gain' anything beyond that is superfluous.
