So this weekend I was kind of naughty. More than kind of, actually. I was so naughty that I had to spread the additional calories I consumed over the next 4 days in order to account for all of them.
Yesterday I decided to try and make up some ground with a marathon session on the treadmill. I know it's not a great idea to try and "out work" your food intake, but all I wanted to do is give myself some breathing room over the next few days.
I put on a movie and basically watched the whole thing while walking briskly (between 3.5 and 4.5 mph for the whole stretch) at a 15% incline. You may think walking on the treadmill isn't that intense, but at that incline at an almost jogging pace it really gets the heart rate up. As I watched the calorie counter on the treadmill flip from 999 back to zero while I still had over 40 minutes left to walk, I wondered if maybe I was overdoing it.
So I finished the movie after having burned over 1500 calories according to the treadmill's calorie counter. I know that's not accurate, but it still had to be a pretty impressive number in actuality. I figure I can assume 1000 calories safely enough anyway. I was completely soaked through with sweat and more than a little wobbly as I limped back to the shower.
That night I slept HARD, but I kept waking up having soaked completely through my sheets and comforter with sweat. I mean it was sopping to the point that I could have squeezed water out of it a couple of times. My assumption was that I had overdone it with the cardio and what I was suffering from was a symptom of overtraining. Despite that I do feel particularly well-rested today, so I'm not sure if I'm over it or not. Anyone else experience something like that after a particularly challenging workout?
