i think olympus c-4000 is better. coolpix 4300 is a really low-end camera (well, not that low-end, but pretty junky)

i have the 4300 and i have to say it's no where near low end. the only bad thing about it is the shutter speed. if you can get it for 290 that's a great price. low end, no way on earth.

I have coolpix 4300 and I disagree with calling it a low end camera. While it looks and works as a great point-and-shoot camera it also has a lot of manual controls if you ever wish to experiment. The image quality is outstanding which IMO is the most important aspect of a camera. Under $300 it's a great deal.

The 4300 is an awesome camera for <$300. At its MSRP price of $499, not so good, but for <$300 I don't think many cameras are as good as it, or have as good of a lens/5point selectable autofocus.

same price is comparing apples and oranges? i think officemax has the c-4000 for $300 out the door right now.

the c-4000 has a 1.8 " lcd, versus nikon's 1.5
it has a constant f/2.8 lens versus nikon's 2.8-4.9. that's a pretty decent lens olympus has.

plus, i think the coolpix 4300 looks cheap. but i guess that's just my opinion

oh yeah, the olympus is larger, i guess. but not like the nikon is a good shape to fit into a pocket anyway

It's not just larger, but 50% larger...

Olympus has 4AAA or CRV3 batts to power it.

Nikon ENEL1 Lithium Ion pack.. Probably about the same life with both, however, since Nikon's pack isn't one of the better ones like Sony's or Canon's.

Yes the lens is faster on the Olympus, but you pay for it with a larger size.

Both have manual controls, albeit you have to dig through the menu on either one to get PASM modes.

Looking cheap.. that's opinion, and mine is BOTH look and feel equally cheap. They're nice cameras, but not of the highest build quality. (Though, its great quality for $300... cant really complain).

Nikon has a 5 point selectable or matrix Auto focus.
Olympus has iESP.
