this is a big zoom. g5 isn't. you can't really compare the two

True, the zoom is great on the 5700, but I'd go with it just because it's from Nikon, not Canon. I guess alot of people like their Canon cameras, but all the ones I've seen were junk, bad pictures, cheesy controls, etc. I have had Nikon digital cameras for about 3 years now, and I'll never buy any other brand, top notch quality camera, stunningly good pictures, just well designed in my opinion. I would rate Canon higher than Olympus though, those ARE junk, bad pictures, purpleing of the edges, etc...

It's very sad that most people don't understand what makes a digital camera good. It's not just how big of picture it will take, but how GOOD of picture it will take. Those do not go hand-in-hand. You can find many cameras that are 4-5 Megapixel, that take LARGE pictures, but not GOOD pictures, the pictures suck, the color is bad and to get it to look good you have to shrink it down to like a 3 megapixel size...so you have gained nothing...

And of course the many Nikon owners who think they automatically become a professional photographer (and can produce beautiful pictures) right after they buy an expensive Nikon camera.
Results matter.
Check pbase.com and other digital photo galleries - even the old cheap Canon G2 in the right hands produce amazing pictures.

If you know what you're talking - then get the D10 or the D100, if not save some money and buy what's cheap & good.

Another nice thing about this camera is that it not huge.

I took some pictures in China with this camera at about 3mp and recently had them printed at 8x10. Amazing detail, clarity, color, and quality. I was stunned at how good the 8x10's turned out.
