Price Match thedigitalbuyer.com ($399.00) with Staples ($637.49)
Apply a $40 off coupon.
Nikon has a $75 dollar rebate until 12/31.
Total theoretical price before shipping = $284.00

This seems like a pretty decent deal for a Nikon. From what I remember this camera has been out for a while- no USB and only a 2X zoom. What do you guys think?

It's a great camera, I have one. 2.1 megapixel which does nice 8x10. No USB, but not a problem if you buy a reader for it which I found to be more convenience cause you don't have to hook the camera to anything, all you have to do is just take the card out and pop it into the reader.

Good price if that really work.

Great camera, I bought one a few months ago when it was a DOTD at buy.com. It takes some very nice pictures. You'll definitely want a USB card reader though because the serial connection is helluva slow. Also you'll probably want a bigger memory card, 8 megs is a little small. 2x zoom isn't a big deal though, AFAIK it's digital zoom anyway so you can get the same effect using Photoshop or some other photo editing suite.

This is the information from Ben's Bargain Center.

The staples coupon is COUPON DELETED and it expires on 11/10.

Sorry, but coupons aren't allowed to be posted here.

Does this thing have similar problems to those of the 950 and 990 with the flash not being powerful enough and red eye reduction not working?

Great little camera, but what Len says is fairly true - I get severe red-eyes on my images (though I don't use the red-eye reduction much... it may work for close distances?). Also, the flash is weak beyond six, seven feet. For daytime (and the occarional close-quarter indoor pic ), though, this baby is just fine.

For a reader, I got a Sandisk USB reader for about 20 bucks, works very well and is quick. Also don't forget some AA NiMH's too

All good words of advice. I have this camera, and have to say you won't be sorry. It does have weak indoor flash, so set the ISO to 400 and change the metering to spot, and you will see a big improvement. The outdoor pictures are fantastic. You can really see the difference between 1 and 2 MP. This is the one that will cause you to put your 35MM in the closet.

Also 64MB CF card is nice. 116 pix. Nimhs are mandatory, as is the USB reader. I get 100 or so shots out of my Kodak Nimh with LCD viewer on.

I bought this camera from mobshop back in the day (anyone remember their digicam coupons?). This camera has 1 feature that's tough to find on cams under $500...lets you capture images in tiff format (no compression)...just make sure you get a bigger compactflash card.

Good find Benasaki!

I got mine from Mobshop like stonerdave. It was 315 delivered several months ago. I'm still amazed prices haven't come down, although the technology in these cameras is pretty impressive. Like others have said get a sandisk usb reader and 64 megs of Cf from buy.com for about $112 before a $25 kingston rebate. For the kingston rebate just search the boards. It is good from Oct 1st - December 31st of this year. At 2 MP, the 8 MB cf goes quick. It also tears through batteries if you keep it in continuous autofocus so make sure to turn that off. And like MuuMuu said, pick up some good AA nimh batteries. Preferably 1500 mah or higher and a charger. Egghead had a good deal on a kodak charger and some kodak batteries. It changes all the time though.

Fairly pleased with this camera, except when it arrived it had one dead pixel.. shows up as a bright orange spot in the middle of the picture. About the size of a period '.' on a 17" monitor. Warranty services is attrocious. (they have 2 centers for the ENTIRE US). So I'll just be buying another one and returning this one as soon as I find a store... Store just sends it back to Nikon.. so I don't find it ethically wrong. Nikon expects me to send it prepaid to NY with my proof of purchase and UPC symbol.. without an RMA.. Don't think so.

If you get the camera at $284 you could always fleabay it for a profit.. so there's really no reason not to get it, if you are looking for a good 2 MP camera.

Amen, dimwit. Exactly mu observations. I got the camera from buy.com just before the DOTD sale, but I used the handy $50.00 off $500.00@ Buy.com so I didn't do too bad. I got the Kodak 1600Mah Nimh recharger/battery pack, the A/C adapter, and the Lexar 64mb 4x USB reader from buy.com using various $30.00 off $100.00 coupons. There was a $75.00 rebate on the camera, and a $40.00 rebate on the Lexar unit, rebated because of the recent 8x USB unit rollout. I'm really happy with this camera, it is my first. Great camera!

Want to really see those pictures shine, sacrafice 8 to 9 bucks (for shipping and handling) and send them online to www.shutterfly.com and get them professionally develop. You will definitely be amazed how this camera's picture looks. If anyone can tell the difference from those versus 35mm print, then I got to say you are good.

I think they are still offering the 50 4x6 prints for free. Definitely worth the shipping price.

I also did the Mobshop digital camera deal back when they were Accompany.com and had those coupons. $315 shipped, and some even got them cheaper with other coupons.

I am surprised that they are still pricey, since they are older now and Nikon has replaced them with the CP880. The CP880 has the 3MP, but unfortunately has proprietary batteries.

For a cheap photo printer, look for the Canon BJC-6000. It was $99 at Office Depot last time I looked. The photos look great with Kodak photo paper. You can also buy individual ink cartridges off 3bay for $5. However, with all inkjets they will eventually fade, so Xmenxmen's shutterfly recommendation is a good one. Shutterfly was also giving out a free 8x10 a couple days ago, so look in the forums for it.

Don't forget that Staples charges sales tax. This just brought my total, after the $40 coupon, to $641. Ask yourself if this deal is still hot if it costs you another $40.

Personally, as the 800s are still selling on fleaBay for over $400, I think it's a great deal. As long as Staples comes through on the pricematch.

nikon's flash is VERY strong. i don't know why dimwit said it was weak. the reason for the redeye is because the flash is located so close to where the lens are. i personally own a 950 and the flash is very strong if you don't manually configure the settings (auto is fine most of the time).

Tim0thy, Nikon has different flashes in the CP800 and CP950. The CP800 flash is rated at 8/23 and the CP950 is 9/30, whatever those numbers mean. Those are from Nikon's technical specifications for these cameras.

The CP950 also has a faster lens, and has external flash connections. But the CP800 is half the price...

For those that already have the camera and would like to overcome the weak flash, check this site out. I learn quite a lot from just looking at the picture and trying some of those settings.

Kind of interested in building one myself, but don't know enough to build one. Are there kits out there that can do similar, but don't case an arm and leg.
