How does it seem better? Looking at the specs the D200 is the same in most things but better in quite a few. This isn't a camera to get grandma or little Billy, but if you need (Or want) what the D200 offers then this is a great deal.

The d200 and the d80 do share some features, including the sensor, AF engine, and number of AF points. However, the d200 is quite a bit more robust than the d80. It's weather sealed for use in all sorts of conditions. It shoots up to 5 frames per second, versus 3 fps on the d80. The d200 uses CF cards.

The d80 does have some interesting features of its own, including some in-camera editing options that some may find useful. It also appears to have a new image processor, since it is newer than the d200. The d80 uses SD cards.

Bottom line, these cameras are aimed at two seperate segments. The d80 is aimed at advanced amateurs with its program image modes akin to point & shoot options. The d200 is perfect for field use due to its build. Both are going to be great cameras.

LOL, it's still a hot deal. If you could buy a $2,000,000 car for $500,000 would you want to know?

I took a Nikon Photography class and the instructor, who liked his D50 over the D200, said that you sometimes have to work harder to get quality pictures out of the D200. It seemed a little too advanced for most users. I know what he was saying turned me off from getting one.

D200 is targeted at a different segment of the market.
You know which one you need. D40/D50 suit 1st time user, D70s/D80 suit user looking for a bit more advance features, D200 is best suited for pro oriented photographer who likes to micromanage everything, D2HS/D2XS when money is no object and you need the best.

$1277 is a great deal for D200 if you can (use) and need it. Otherwise, D200 is an overkill for casual users and more trouble than its worth.

As a former Nikon snob (film), it's been astonishing to watch the development of the digital domain since the craptastic Kodak Pro models or digital backs that cost an arm, leg, and a gonad.

There's a pretty good review on AT homepage on dSLRs. The competition has been great for consumers. Not surprisingly, there are now multiple options beyond Nikon/Canon at every level.

Short of the shady, gray market outlets, I doubt you can beat that price on a D200. But I would definitely look at the most recent offerings in dSLRs.

Zero Plasma,

Thanks for posting this good deal on the Nikon D200. It looks like it's now at $1,249.99
with about 10.00 for standard shipping. Has anyone had any dealings with "Complete Photo USA" an Amazon affiliate? I could not find them on resellerratings.com.

Nikon D200 @ Amazon Link

Happy holidays,

No problem, I would definitely say it's ok being sent from "Complete Photo USA". Amazon has them on the main item page and they have a very good Amazon rating so there should be no problems buying the camera, and if on the off chance there were your pretty well protected by Amazon and if you use a credit card you can always dispute it with your credit card company. The new price of $1,249.99 makes this great deal even better!

a lot of very reputable shops sell this camera for 1330 range (including 7th street photo and bhpho). Not sure this is such a great deal esp at 1310
