I love my Canon 350d Rebel XT w/ EF-S 17-85mm IS lens. Although I did pay double the price for the package compared to this Nikon.

Other company's sensors I guess...I have read similar reviews about sensor quality, although I think the lens makes/breaks most camera reviews. I have the Rebel XT and I wouldn't trade it for anything, small, quick, tack-sharp pictures that look awesome atleast up to 20x30" (have one on my wall I got printed a week ago)...with any dSLR you will want more/several lenses...I just got a Tamron 28-300 lens for mine, which with the crop factor correction is 45mm-480mm a hell of a range...so don't think that buying just the camera completes your photo setup, but this is a hell of a deal for a very good Nikon dSLR...just be prepared to toss some money towards a few lenses or (IMO a better idea) money towards one really good/useful lens.

I bought the D50 off of Cameta Camera with the AF-S 18-55 lens, 1 Gig 80x Transcend SD, large Nikon bag, USB 2.0 SD Reader, xtra battery, cleaning kit, microfiber cloth and 30 free shutterfly exposures for $649. Great deal considering that most B&M's and online store have the camera w. lens only on sale for $650. Great transaction too, ordered Friday, received Tuesday. No problems at all. I figure the accessories are probably worth $100+ depending where you buy them.

Also I placed an order for the SB-600 for $179 at Buydig. Ordered Monday, still waiting for tracking on Wednesday.

Not sure..but I don't think this lens is the actual kit lens that often goes with the Nikon.

For those new to SLRs, the camera is only half of the equation to getting good pictures. The quality of the lens is incredibly important to get nice pictures. Has anyone done research on this lens to see how it performs?

The 18-55 AF-S lens is the kit lens. It arrived sealed inside the original Nikon D50 Camera Kit box. A good review of the lens can be found here..

Blah, got a Pentax *ist DL with kits lense there last week for $539. If they offer this thing at this price last week, I would have got this instead. Oh well, the DL is still a great camera.

Just received a reply from buydig.com that the SB-600 is back-ordered even though the website says it's in stock. Note that I had to ask what was going on with the order since it just indicates processing. Anyway, I complain that they really shouldn't indicate that its in stock if they don't have the product and don't know when it's coming in.

You know what their reply was... they canceled my order "per my request". Wow, I guess that's customer service for you. Well, it just takes one bad experience to lose a customer for life and I hope this inspires some of you to avoid them if it's critical to get the component when you need it. Even if that doesn't bother you consider their response to my complaint that they should update their website to indicate that it's back-ordered as it shows it's in stock for days, they cancel my order. I guess that's their way of saying we don't need you to point out that we're either fraudulent or negligent.
