Can't decide if he means he's going to stop touring for a while and stop shitting out NIN product, maybe to work extra hard or something on the next album or who knows what, or if he really means he's going to set NIN aside for the time being. Doesn't really explain.

The Original Emo Boy will hang up NIN for a few years. Lock himself in his basement and play some video games until a Republican is President again, and then return to daylight with another album.

Not his fault... I'd like to think of NIN and politics as separate too but Trent pretty much made sure you can't think of one without the other.

Also as much as I can't stand his "music", I like how he tries to do what he believes in by releasing albums for free and whatnot. I respect him enough for that but NIN is nothing but annoying electronic noise.

It sounds like they are going to continue their 2009 tour, but after that ???

I thought I was going to have to break it to the daughter that NIN wasn't going to be at Bonnaroo this year. She's already got tickets and all I've heard about is how much she wants to see NIN.

Nothing that he didn't say at the end of the 2k8 tour

last run of shows, then disappear for a while

I think he's just taking a break. He did alot of stuff 2k6-2k8; before that was what, 4-5 years in between cd's?

Yeah, it's been crazy seeing so many releases in a short time.

The rumors are true: Trent Reznor will produce the new Jane?s Addiction album, and take Perry Farrell?s band on tour when Nine Inch Nails hit the road this summer for a U.S. tour. In a long post on the NIN.com Website, Reznor writes that early in Nine Inch Nails? career, he toured with Jane?s Addiction and the experience was ?truly the best times I?ve had.? Reznor goes on to reveal how a friend told him that Jane?s recent L.A. club performances were ?unbelievable,? which inspired him to contact the band and discuss the possibility of collaborating.

?Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we?re in the studio experimenting,? Reznor writes. ?We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record lots of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become friends, we laugh again and we do some great things.?

While NIN fans are likely excited about the Jane?s Addiction news, it?s the second sentence of the third paragraph of Reznor?s post that most likely concerns the diehards: ?I?ve been thinking for some time now it?s time to make NIN disappear for a while.? Reznor has been uncharacteristically prolific in recent years, releasing With Teeth, Year Zero, Ghosts I-IV and The Slip in a four year span; by contrast, there was a six-year hiatus following 1999?s The Fragile. Fans have a legitimate reason for concern: should Reznor take another lengthy break from NIN, the project might not return until 2015.

With this year marking the 20th anniversary of NIN?s seminal Pretty Hate Machine, and following NIN?s production-heavy Lights In The Sky tour, Reznor also revealed that the Jane?s-and-NIN jaunt will be ?much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted.? According to Reznor?s Twitter, the rocker was nervous about testing out the new concert format prior to last night?s show in Auckland, New Zealand, but in the end Reznor writes, ?Very strange show for us to play. Completely different and exciting. Nothing was familiar to us. Mission accomplished!?

The NIN U.S. tour dates are expected soon, and we?d be shocked if a huge festival or two weren?t part of the itinerary. NIN are already booked for Bonnaroo and this morning both bands were announced for the Memorial Day Weekend Sasquatch! Festival in Washington?s Gorge. Jane?s Addiction at Perry Farrell?s own Lollapalooza, perhaps?

Whatever. You guys might not love Jane's (I've never listened to much more than their singles) but they still beat the crap out of the butt-rock we've been hearing on the radio lately. I'd take them over Nickelback any day of the week.

This was on the Janes Addiction website

Entitled "a note from Eric"

it started with a brief email. we had done the NME show a week or so earlier. it was an old friend of janes addiction; past present and future. he said (i just opened the actual email so i can quote it),

"Hey Eric - Fun set the other nite... I was wondering if you had some time to get together for a chat about the future..... I would love to have some direct straight communication if at all possible Let me know if we can chat or meet up sometime in the next few weeks."

the word FUTURE stuck out immediately to me. the idea of janes addiction and the future. it resonated with me for two days before i returned his email. two more days later we met for a couple hours over coffee. i laid out my fears about stepping back in and he addressed them reasonably.

we spoke of not wanting to go do a bloated version of something we had done a long time ago. that the only way to go forward was to take it back. way back. to the beautiful dark spirit that got the whole story started. get in fighting shape. play some small clubs. try to write some new material.

there was even talk of trent at that point. someone with skill, cred, and a creative opinion that would garner respect from all of us. someone that might be able to wrangle the unruly clash of personalities if we tried to do some more recording. but that seemed conceptual. someone like trent.

hes busy doing his own thing. but a few days later i called our old friend again, "how real is the possibility of it being trent?" the reply was,"very real." i found the possibility of it exciting. i was feeling excited about janes? what would a new song sound like? i started putting down some ideas. felt some good creative momentum. tried to get the ball rolling. but history being the precedent, interpersonal band relations immediately soured and we almost fucked it all away without getting it off the ground.

they convinced me to put away the idea of new songs and just play some shows let everyone get some good mojo going before trying to record anything again. ok. la cita. el cid. alright try again. trent is in. try to write/record with him followed by a tour. the opportunity to work with Trent and his team: alan moulder, atticus ross. they deliver in spades. there is much to be learned from them. but janes manages to almost implode again. so again, the answer is hit the road play some shows and see if we can keep it together and get some good mojo going.

nine inch nails. janes addiction. original lollapalooza. it makes perfect conceptual sense. nine inch nails will challenge us nightly to bring out our best. i consider it a challenge of the best kind. we will finish on our feet or die trying. but then i should let the boys speak for themselves. im eric. bass player

I'm looking forward to seeing NIN and Janes Addiction live. Guess I'm the only old guy who liked Janes back in the day.
