Amazon $9.99

While it may be on par with other prices (WalMart etc) it's a good deal just because NIN rules. Kind of a reminder to fans that Trent released another album too

Same price at Buy.com. BTW, it'll probably go for either $8.90 or $11.88 at Kmart.

Great cd. I had the oppurtunity to listen to it a few weeks back (along with the tracks that were leaked as part of the ARG), and it was outstanding. For those not familiar, it's based of the concept of a world 16 years from now, in which the US government uses the threat of terrorism to justify drugging the masses into submission and controlling every aspect of life via the Bureau of Morality. There was actually a huge Alternate Reality Game (aka ARG) based on it, in which clues left on usb drives left in bathrooms at shows led a path to a series of websites that 'leaked' from the future via a scientific expirament gone wrong, which paint a vivid picture of a future gone awry. Google 'year zero arg' if you want to find more about it.

Edit: I've never seen a dvd-audio version of a NIN album, but I've seen all the albums in SACD dual-disc at Borders...

Yeah, thanks for that. Now I don't have any desire to even listen to this album.

Screw gimmick albums. That crap sounds ridiculous.

That gimmick is called marketing... so I guess you need to stop buying stuff. All stuff.

Obviously you've never heard any of the previous NIN albums, as every single one but 'With Teeth' was a concept album, albeit they didn't have that ellaborate ARG marketting (actually quite an amazing stunt, if you browse the sites--and who can pass up leaked songs). Furthermore, almost any artist (excluding pop music) design all their albums with a general concept in mind, and it often can span across the entire discography. Themes and concepts are what create music -- without an idea how can music even exist?

If it is the pseudo-politcal nature of the album you are referring to, I'd suggest that you listen to the album first. Although it paints a picture of a bleak future, inciting modern activism is not the point of the concept. Instead, it merely offers an extensive palette of raw emotions to draw upon to create incredibly uinique songs. Each song paints a completely different picture, whether through the eyes of a god-fearing person approaching the end of days, or the crazed rantings of a domestic terrorist. If there is a lesson that is meant to be gained through the music, it's not a politcal view but the ideal that an individual must do what is right for them whether public opinion is against or not. Basically, find the truth for yourself and do whatever it takes to survive.

To any NIN fans, it'll take a while to get used to the album (as it always has, in my case), but you'll love it once you do...

And idea or theme for an album is much different than trying a mass market stunt to sell albums. If you can't sell albums on the sound alone, then the album isn't really worth buying, IMHO. Sell the album, then use the album to tell the story. Not the other way around.

You think NIN can't sell albums? They could throw 10 ****** tracks together, slap NIN on the cover and they'd sell millions.

That's great. Over the top marketing still isn't a good reason to buy an album. Sorry you feel that way.
