$250 is just high enough for me to not get it. $199 I could have lived with.

I would consider $250, but the fact that it comes with only one controller makes it really $290 when you get the second (which is a must IMO) and then tax throws it over $300. That's XBox 360 territory...

Yah well you pay another $100 for the 360 WiFi...

Did I read in this thread that the Sports game will come with the $250 bundle or is that debunked?

Plus another $40-50 for the additional 360 wireless controller...

that's on par with Xbox360 games. Initially they had said that the games would be cheaper than Xbox360.

Why were so many people expecting it to be $199? Nintendo's official stance was always that it would be "under $250" which anyone with half a brain could tell you meant $249.99.

It's like those car commercials where the announcer says "starting under twenty-thousand dollars" and the car starts at $19,999.99.

They're varying in pricing now. Test Drive Unlimited was just released for $39.99. Rockstar Table Tennis was released at that price point. Star Wars Legos II just came out at $49.99. MS First Party games come out at $49.99.

First party Xbox360 games are $49.99, just as Nintendo ones will be.

Because Nintendo's other consoles were released at $199.99 for the most part?

Sounds great, Zelda launches soon after and that's all that matters Unfortunately metroid launches in 07.
I'm also surprised at how many games will be available, it's a nice start.

So don't you think they would have said it would be under $200 then?

i will still get one. i will just wait a year for them to come out with a $199 bundle. wich they will.

i am dispointed that it is not $199 but heck $250 is not bad

What lead you to believe it would be $199 when everything pointed to $249?
I know you're not the only one who thought it would be $199.. I've seen people bitch & moan on engadget, gizmodo, fark, etc etc about it.. but why?

O'Rly?
Price
America:
Official: $250 or lower - Nintendo senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori (5/25)
$150 - Vibe Magazine (9/10)
$170 - David Gardner, executive VP and COO of EA's worldwide studios (8/21)
$175 - Text of supposed Reggie speech from Go Nintendo (8/27)
$200 - Merill Lynch analyst Justin Post (5/17)
$229 - "sources suggest" to IGN (8/7)
$229 - "A source close to Nintendo" via NintendoPlayers (9/12)
$249 - EGM (5/8)
$299 - 7-11 flier (8/4)

The price rumors were all over the board. But, like I said in a previous post $200 is what Nintendo previously released their consoles at.

Worth mentioning that the $250 price is with DVD functionality removed - Link.
"Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, confirmed to IGN Wii today that its forthcoming Wii console will not play Hollywood DVD movies. The decision to remove the functionality was made in order to deliver the machine at a cheaper cost and because most people today already own DVD players."

Sound decision though.

Exactly my point... $250 or lower.. means $249.99. Everything else is just a rumour/guess. If I had a Wii blog and said Nintendo would give them away for free, would you quote that too? I had a source close to Nintendo that told me that.

why $199? because nearly every system they have released (none handheld) has been 199 thats why.

Wonderful.. so the PlayStation was $299... the PS2 was $299... I should expect the PS3 to be $299 even though the official word is otherwise.

Absolutely. DVD functionality might have mattered for the last generation, but this time there's no point to it.

$250 or lower could also mean that they hadn't finalized the price yet.

But I do agree that it was overly optimistic to expect that the price would be anything less than $249.99. Some people were expecting $170 - that's just crazy talk. $250 with a game is pretty reasonable, although it makes me wonder if they did it because Wii Sports isn't good enough to stand on its own. People were saying that you couldn't control the movement of your player in tennis (it was automatic), all you could do is swing... that's not great if they haven't changed that. I wonder if Wii Sports is more just an attempt to show off what the system can do rather than be a serious game... kind of like Super Scope 6 was back on the SNES. Looks to be fun to play with a group though. Damn, I can't fit 4 people swinging controllers in my living room though.

they had not set a price until last night. so people expecting it for $199 is not unreasonable.

also the PS3 is comeing out with a dvd player that in itself is sopposed to be like $800
