*shrugs* $170 seems to be an okay price for it. The software is what's too expensive.
The software is what is missing. I paid full price for mine and I'd be fine with that if there were games. My own fault though.

I'm enjoying mine so far but software is definitely an issue. Also, a lot of the games are too "appish" to justify their price. I picked up OoT with mine, which looks phenomenal, but it's pretty sad that its best title is 14 years old. But, this seems to be a trend with this generation. The DS and PSP had slow launches, and the PS3's lack of games early on was notorious. Even the 360's launch wasn't that impressive. MS was just fortunate enough to snag COD2 and Madden out of the gate.
Picked one up for my kid last night at wally world. I'll hop on tonight and get him registered with the eshop for the games, then I'll tuck it away til christmas.
It wasnt tempting to get one for myself too.
Wow, that's lame.
How so? He's 7, doesn't know he's getting it. The only reason i got it this early is so he can get the extra games. It's not like he's sitting next to me watching me set it up, and then he can't have it.
I think he thought that your kid DID know you got it for him. That WOULD be lame.
How so? If the 3DS suddenly had a ton of great new games, OOT would still be the best title.

as awesome as OoT is and as much as I love the Zelda franchise as a whole, the games have never been particularly good when it comes to replay value
I've played through it several times on the N64, and while it was easily one of my favorite games for that system, it certainly wasn't my most played game
Did the same for the respective OoT releases on the GameCube and then Wii
I have it again as my sole 3D title for the 3DS and while its absolutely amazing with how it works with the 3D and gyro sensors free-look, its still the same game. No truly new surprises other than showing a few things the system is capable of.
And to show how much of a problem this game situation really is my next planned 3DS title purchase is StarFox 64 3D on September 9th
Unique Mario titles aren't due until November with Kid Icarus: Uprising maybe available by the holidays, and Super Smash and Resident Evil aren't due until 2012. Until then I can only hope some yet unknown 3rd party title comes along to surprise.
The future of the system certainly isn't completely grim, I just think they released it before they had enough unique titles for it. Right now the 3DS is an awesome system if you've never owned a DS before, but I can see how it would be a huge let down for current DS owners given the lack of quality 3DS titles.
well i caved in and picked one up today. didn't buy any games and am already having buyer's remorse. its a cool system though. amazed at the included face raiders and especially AR Games. that was cool.
Did you buy it with actual money?
