God, what a clusterfuck. They just realized now two analog sticks might be a good idea? Why not add another screen while they're at it? Better yet, add another battery in the shell, that way it can at least last as long as a game gear. And weigh 2 pounds.

Way to go segmenting your userbase and/or releasing another peripheral no one will use less than a year in.

Also, trying to play those NES games really brings out how atrocious that dpad on the 3DS is.

This system needs a redesign, stat. Everyone will be able to see the 3DS SP coming a mile away...I wonder how many will hold off on buying cause of that this holiday.

In another news...Tupac is still dead.

Not sure why they decided to add a second stick at this point in the game. The N64 and PSP did okay with a single stick. It's doable provided you're creating original content and not making crappy ports of current console games.

Yah, it's not like lack of a second stick has been a big complaint about the 3DS. Maybe developers have been privately complaining to Nintendo about it, but what bothers consumers the most is the lack of games, poor battery life and pointless 3D.

I think Nintendo is better off coming out with a Nintendo 2DS, dropping the 3D screen but still otherwise maintaining compatibility with the 3DS. If it's going to do something as radical as adding a second stick then it's better off just designing an entirely new handheld and scrapping the 3DS entirely. This second stick add-on for existing 3DS owners is ridiculous.

I agree the 2nd stick is a joke. But I actually like the 3D. I've gotten used to it to the point where I prefer having it on when I can. It's a subtle difference I'll agree and I think they made the mistake of making it the killer feature for the system instead of focusing on making sure they had some good launch titles. However everything being equal I actually like the 3D. Seems I'm one of the few?

Again, one of the major problems is lack of titles (or at least lack of quality titles). The 3D while playing OoT has been amazing, the problem is I can't really get into that game simply because I've already played it to death, I'd much rather play some of the downloadable games such as Plants vs. Zombies if only because I had never played them before.

that being said, new games (which a likely inevitable best sellers) are just on the horizon, so we'll have more titles to way the 3D against, but the moment I'm going to have to agree that the feature is more gimmick than substance

that being said, I think Nintendo really should have focused on going digital download distribution. The included SD card on the 3DS is an awesome feature, the problem is there just aren't that many downloads available. Not only should more developers make games that can be downloaded (forgoing 3D is fine), Nintendo should have made it so that you could download retail cartridge games. The included 2GB SD card should be enough to hold at least a handful (even though 3DS cartridges supposedly can go up to 8GB), and 32GB SDHC cards can easily be found for less than $50.

I ordered 2 of em, one for me and the son, and they were just delivered! Anyway, coupla questions: can these play mp3s? How is the quality of the cameras as far as taking 3d pics?

Yes, it can play MP3s. As for the camera quality, it's poor. They're only 0.3MP (640x480 cameras) so don't expect a great deal out of them.

Yes they can play MP3s.You can record and share music too and they have a number of 3d interactive visualizations as well. There is also limited play list support and random play.

The quality of the cameras is really crappy. However the 3d effect they capture is actually quite good if you have good lighting and the right subject. It's fun to play around with if you don't mind capturing mostly novelty shots. You can also do stupid things like draw on the photos and the like.

I remember reading somewhere that the rumor was that Nintendo decided to design the second stick in response to Monster Hunter. Not sure how the controls work, but apparently the port from PSP needed the right analog stick.

Sort of seems plausible. Monster Hunter is hugely popular in Japan.

The PSP only has one stick/nub, so if it was a PSP port it wouldn't need a second stick.

Well, ive been playing with it all weekend and dig the 3d aspect. Dont have any 3d games but from the demos and built in apps its pretty cool. The sound level/quality of mp3 playback is horrendous. Its extrememly low. The cameras are nice for the AR stuff but just suck for either regular pic taking and 3d pic taking. Overall I am enjoying this system and will be picking up OOT this week.

How unimpressive...

Really? They all look really good to me. The only one I might not care for is Animal Crossing, and that's only because I'm not used to the franchise. I know a lot of people love that series.

I like most of those series. I guess I just expected them to be... better. Indicative of a next gen handheld.
