Fail. Nintendo management is just living in their own little bubble divorced from reality at this point.

Promise people zelda, mario, mario kart, smash bros, and maybe a metroid and it will sell 10-20 million units at least. When you make money on every console sold and most owners buy 5-10 first party games you make money.

I agree its under powered and over priced, but I was never planning to buy one anyways. If the extreme haters in this thread actually took a few minutes to check gaming site coverage and comments there, they'd see there is palpable excitement for this product. The switch will sell way better than the Wii U did.

I'll be getting one for my kids. Being able to use a battery bank to charge it on trips will be pretty sweet, as well as being able to use a power inverter for long car rides. Being able to play two player games on car rides is a big plus as well. I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of great launch titles, obviously the new Zelda game is the stand out. Add some Roblox, Minecraft, and Pokemon and this would be a primary gaming device for the kids. I'll probably play the Zelda game, but in TV-Mode.

$50-$60 a game for something equivalent to a mobile game like their Mario game which flopped on the iPhone?

Plus a subscription service to pay for.

WTF?!

Yes because Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and eventually a new mario kart, smash bros, No more heros, xenoblade, the rpg from square, etc are definitely mobile games! This isn't a glorified iphone game wise. Nintendo first party console games are almost always top notch. I understand being disappointed in the hardware specs but hardware specs do not make or break a great game. If Nintendo still produced the SNES and released new games for it people would be buying them.

Master Edition sold out. Ugh. Oh well, it does not appear as though the U version was getting the master edition but still. If Nintendo didn't underproduce this crap so much they'd be printing money.

Yup. I don't know why people keep mentioning a PS4 or Xbox or other console. None of those I can take on the go. The fact I can play my switch before work. Take it to work and play on lunch, then, take home and continue playing? Smart phones don't have the games consoles don't have the mobility. 300 is 50-100 more than J want to play, but it's the only thing of interest to me to buy. Vega, 1080ti, PS4, Scorpio, all interesting but switch is what I actually want.

Now if we could only get this form factor for my STEAM library... AMD make it happen

This is getting off topic, but with Windows 10 on ARM coming soon, it'd be nice to see Tegra X1 or a newer, faster Tegra chip get full Windows 10 compatibility. I don't know how feasible gaming would be with a translation layer, but given that Tegra X1 has a faster GPU than anything Intel has other than Iris Pro, it'd be nice to have options.

They might as well give it Shield streaming from PC. Nvidia and Nintendo can split the profits on a cartridge that enables streaming from home pcs (latest Nvidia only, of course). Sony and MS sort of have the opposite right now, so this could be a counter.

Spoiler: They won't bother.

This alone will sell millions of Switch units.

With "this" you mean the example how the graphics will look like PC games from the 90ties?

he fact I can play my switch before work. Take it to work and play on lunch, then, take home and continue playing?

Then you should probably go for counseling about gaming addiction. You know you could also talk to other people on lunch, like 99% of people do, meaning your example is a niche.

Snapdragon 835s Adreno 540 is already 2xperformance of HD515 found in core M6Y30. According to Microsoft that is the first SoC Windows 10 on ARM is supporting. Regarding emulation it might not be as bad for GPU limited games but there is always the option of compiling native ARM.

He was citing examples of opportunities in which he COULD play it, not all of the times that he will always be playing it. Perhaps he doesn't share a lunch break with anyone. Perhaps his co-workers are his gaming buddies. Perhaps he is normal like most people and does not strike up in depth conversations with strangers.

Who are you to judge how he uses his time anyways?

$299 with $80 controllers? Looks like the Wii U will be the last Nintendo console I own for a while.

The ads write themselves:

Switch... to Xbox

Switch... to Playstation

Graphics really don't matter nearly as much as us PC homers want them to. I haven't owned a Nintendo since the SNES, but I'd say that Ocarina of Time (so a game that I never owned and only played through once) is still a better game than roughly 95% of what is released these days, and still very playable.

I would guess second. The 3DS (which again was only $50 less at launch) sold 62 million units (which was a decline from the previous Nintendo portable consoles). So far the Xbox One has sold around 26 million units and its about to be replaced. So even if the Switch sells half the number of units the 3DS did, it would still sell more units than the Xbox One.

It is the PS4 at nearly 50 million units sold that will be hard for the Switch to overcome.

From Kotaku
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild remains as impressive as it has been since Nintendo showed it off last year. A Nintendo attendant told me that it runs significantly better on Switch than it does Wii U, which shouldn’t be hugely shocking? (Clearly they want you to buy the Switch version.)

I'll belive it when I see it. That also means I'll wait for reviews, even at the cost of not getting a copy early on for a cheaper price.

As long as Sony/MS do not allow PS4P and Scorpio exclusives, it seems reasonable to clump PS4/Slim & PS4 Pro as well XB1/XB1S/Scorpio as the same 8th generation.

What is going to be inevitable is the Switch overlapping with PS5/"XB2" in 2019-2020. The Switch needs to have at least a 4-5 year lifespan; and that means it needs to have solid support until March 2021 at the very least to ensure the console doesn't suffer the same fate as the Wii U in the last 2 years of its life.

Given that Mario Odyssey is not out until Holiday 2017, and there is a glut of must own Switch games, imo, Nintendo should have waited until November 2017 and went for a 1.5-2Ghz ARM and Pascal SOC on 14/16nm. This is especially important since they are trying to replace a home console with a hybrid portable. The current $299 US / $399 Canadian price for home console users is somewhat misleading. I would need to spend another $70-140 US / $90-180 CAD on 2 Pro controllers and possibly $40-50 on a 128GB SD card down the line. It's completely unfair to compare the Switch to PS4/XB1 as a home console experience without including these items. Then, the "all-in" price to make the Switch a true home console is way too steep given the lack of software. As I mentioned, it was possible to purchase both XB1S and PS4 bundles for the price of the "all-in" Switch kit.

The reaction on forums and YouTube outside of popular media is very negative about this console and the launch line-up. This is extremely worrying to me since Nintendo has indicated no plans to launch a traditional home console alongside the Switch.

What we got is a portable console that fixes NONE of the issues that made the Wii U unpopular. The guaranteed sales to Nintendo fans and loyalists aren't enough as we've seen with the Wii U. Nintendo hasn't done much to entice or convert everyone else that this console is a must own.

Handheld console sales are drying up:
https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/...ummeting-the-nx-console-cant-come-fast-enough

On our forum, gamers claim if it sells 20-30M copies, that's good. No, that's a disaster!!! Since this 1 console is supposed to replace DS/3DS/New 3DS and NES/SNES/N64/GameCube product lines. That means it really needs to sell at least 80M units [just to match 3DS portable and the GameCube home console sales]. For some reason, people are ignoring this point. One cannot claim that the Switch is a portable + a home console, but then ignore that its combined sales then should somewhat make up for Nintendo's portable and home console system sales of past generations. If this console sells just 20-30M, that's a bigger failure than the Wii U since it was meant that to replace 2 console segments.
