Note of Interest: the current new 3DS ships with a PICA200 GPU made by DMP.

PICA200:
65 nm Single Core (max. clock frequency 400 MHz)
pixel performance: 800 Mpixel/s
400 Mpixel/s @100 MHz
1600 Mpixel/s @400 MHz
vertex performance: 15.3 Mpolygon/s at 200 Mhz
40Mtriangle/s @100 MHz
160Mtriangle/s @400 MHz

Anyone know how to translate these figures to something like a 750Ti?

And for what its worth the Wii U is currently using a Radeon 3850ish GPU.

It's always a bit tricky to make a direct comparison between two so different architectures, but the PICA200 is capable of 4.8 GFLOPS, whereas the 750 Ti is capable of 1306 GFLOPS, or in other words 272 times faster.

So although a lot of people here thinks going with Tegra X1 instead of X2 is a mistake, it's worth noting that even the Tegra X1 is ~100 times faster than the PICA200.

That's a good thing! Means we might get something with some actual guts.

A possible Tegra X2 with 512 Pascal cores at a decent frequency should EASILY match the Xbone with its 768 GCN 1.0 SP's. Also keep in mind, Xbone only has 68GB/sec DDR3 memory interface.

From what I know, mobile systems are almost always memory hamstrung due to narrow interfaces that save power. Maybe it will have a clever eDRAM like the current Wii U has. Memory bandwidth is going to be crucial, especially for streaming onto full 1080P TV screens!

Here a 750ti with 640 Maxwell cores beats out a 7850 Pitcairn (almost exact same as PS4) with its 1024 GCN SP's. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1589?vs=1662

750 TI has 86.4GB/sec, about 20% more than the Xbox One.

What are you talking about? XBox One has 68GByte/s (DDR3) + 192 GByte/s (ESRAM) bandwidth. All the high bandwidth operations like ROPs are working in conjunction with 192 GByte/s ESRAM.

And then deflated over the next 3 days because nobody could figure out how the popularity of Pokemon Go translates to actual financial results. Nintendo is a goner. In 10 years they will be Pokemon company and go back to making playing cards like how they started.

You are patently WRONG. http://venturebeat.com/2016/07/19/sensor-tower-pokemon-go-has-already-passed-30m-downloads-and-35m-in-revenue/
iPhone owners in the U.S. alone are spending approximately $1.6 million every single day. That makes Pokémon Go the top-grossing app in the $36.9 billion mobile-gaming sector and the entire iOS and Android app market.
^^Iphone ALONE, Android numbers are also huge, its the highest downloaded game on Android as well as Iphone.

Yes Nintendo only gets about 30% of that, but its still huge! Nintendo is about to Launch the Pokemon Go Plus. They will get 100% of the proceeds, naturally: http://heavy.com/games/2016/07/pokemon-go-what-is-plus-price-wearable-device-smart-watch-bluetooth-features-price-release-date-preorder-stores/

Also, this has brought Pokemon as a brand back to the limelight in a BIG way. Nintendo can capitalize much more in the future and will learn from this.

Actually Nintendo probably gets significantly less than 30% of Pokemon GO profits.

It's true that they own roughly 30% of The Pokemon Company, however The Pokemon Company doesn't get 100% of the profits from Pokemon GO, they get whatever they are entitled to according to their licensing agreement with Niantic.

I have no idea what the exact licensing agreement looks like, but I would be surprised if The Pokemon Company gets more than a few percent of the profit from Pokemon GO (And Nintendo then gets 30% of these few percent).

Why in the HELL would they agree to that? Its perhaps their strongest IP getting released to the largest platform in the world..

The Pokemon Company has been around since 1998.

And quite frankly Nintendo couldn't have made Pokemon go themselves.

Has anyone confirmed if or if not the "MAJOR" design tapeout in Japan. On the Samsung 28nm FDSOI node is for the Nintendo NX?

Again I have no idea exactly what The Pokemon Company's licensing fees are (since it's a privately held company), but generally speaking toy and video game license fees / royalties are in the 5-15% range.

Nintendo would then be entitled to 32% percent of this, so 1.6-4.8%.

Heh, the wii u has a ~176GFlop GPU. Less than half a 3850. Pretty amazing they got mario kart 8 and mario 3d world to 60 fps on that thing.

I dont see them going the handheld plus console/dock, wouldn't they be able to stream to a smart TV with the handheld? then connect more controllers wireless to the handheld for multiplayer on a TV?

Nvidia is involved with this thing? That's just great. This will be the first console in history to cost $1,500.00.

Who entertains their kids with Pokemon go? Pokemon go is awful for your small kids. What parent hands their kid a cell phone and says go play in traffic to "catch em all little Timmy."

Everyone I know has a cheapo $150 tablet with angry birds and a few other f2p mobile games on it for their kids. The kids literally sit there in a trance playing these games.

Why do you actually have kids if all you do is put them in front of a screen? How about actually doing something with them?

the Nintendo NX as far as I can see is basically a portable with TV out and detachable controllers, not much of a regular console...
it's not hard to understand given Nintendo's recent much higher success with portables than regular consoles.

the whole cart thing also makes it sound a lot more like a typical Nintendo portable... and I can see it as the more worrying point of the console, it probably means low internal storage, having poor digital distribution in 2017 sounds crazy; sure it can have a card slot, but it could be proprietary (expensive), or typical SD (lots of variability regarding speed, which is not good).

Hey if Maxwell/Pascal makes it into a major console, maybe developers will keep optimizing for it after NVidia's driver team moves into the Volta office

Doubtful since according to majority opinion based on this thread no one beside Nintendo will publish games for NX. :|

Having a cartridge is by the far the best thing I've read about this console. Disks are stupid and take up a ton of space, plus it's clearly not yet time to do full digital distribution.

Not sure about other mobile gamers, but on the Vita/3DS I carry at most 3 games for each on me (which fit comfortably on the removable memory types for each).

It's not like I need my whole catalog of mobile games at my direct disposal when I'm on the go. Chances are I'm playing the same game for a week or two (if I don't binge, curse you Persona 4G/Link Between Worlds) since I only do 1-2hrs gaming collectively through a whole day.

So the two of you are saying that we'll get NX games ported to the PC, or something to that effect :hmm:
