heheh, job pays for mortgage, 2 car loans, stay at home wife, baby, mutual funds, and all the other usual life bills. have to make room for toys some other way

anyway, one item shows 'shipping soon', others have not changed their status yet, i'm guessing they'll get cancelled, no try no gain.

You better believe it is. I barely managed to get one over the weekend from the nearby Best Buy, and I can say with all honesty that I have never had nearly this much fun with any gaming device - PC or console - with the possible exception of the Sega Genesis I got when I was a kid, since it was my first.

The Wii simultaneously takes you back and allows you to enjoy some very cool new motion-sensitive technology. What I mean by that is I believe it's got some of the best "backwards compatibility" out there, thanks to the Virtual Console (NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, and TurboGrafx-16 games) and compatibility with Gamecube games, so you can enjoy all kinds of old-school classics like A Link To The Past and Super Mario Bros.

And, of course, it also gives you the benefit of a whole new kind of controller in the Wii Remote which makes for some very entertaining, immersive gameplay. I don't know how else to put it. It's wireless, it's got an attachment port for various accessories, it rumbles, it's got a speaker built in, it's motion-sensitive, and you can just point it at the screen like a real remote and have it work. You could swing it like a golf club, turn it like a steering wheel, aim it like a gun, or do any of a number of other things with it. What could be cooler? I've tried out the bundled Wii Sports and Warioware: Smooth Moves and, despite both games' simplicity, I remain very much hooked

The Wii lives up to its name, too. Just about everyone can play it, and in my limited experience here at college, just about everyone wants to play it. Almost every time I talk about my Wii to my friends on campus, they ask if they can come over to play a few rounds with me. I've even got plans in the works to set up a full-fledged Wii night every week!

All in all, I think it's a good product and a terrific value. It comes with a good number of features, like the bundled Wii Sports game, built-in save storage and integrated wi-fi, so I think its price tag is justified. And if my personal experience is any indicator, this is the console to go with. People like it because it's easy to use and fun. Even the guys here in my hall who used to play their xBox 360's now spend a considerable amount of time playing Wii
