just watched the Zombi U trailer ... holy shit that game looks awful. can't believe how bad the graphics are. and everytime the guy was using the controller, it literally said "look at controller" on the screen.

why not just put what is on the controller, on the big screen you are playing the game on?

talk about gimmicky as shit.

and the game has no checkpoints or save points, and you only have 1 life per character? this sounds 100x worse than dead rising.

Latest and greatest? Its barely as good as a ps3 or 360. People won't buy it with no games.

Sony and MS didn't need to have impressive presentations. Nintendo did. It doesn't matter what games get released next year if no one bought the console this year. This was the only year they had the holiday all to themselves with a new console, and they couldn't capitalize on it. They didn't even have anything to show for the near future, to entice people to at least buy the console for its future potential. Even if these games wouldn't be coming out till next holiday, and they had nothing to show, they needed to at least announce a game that would get people to consider the system.

You put all your cards on the table because you want people to buy the damn system. MS and Sony can and should hold their cards close because they still want people to buy and care about their current generation, which is still going, and which nintendo has since dropped out of.

I'm an old school nintendo fan, I've got lots of money, I love new tech. I'm such an easy sell here, and they couldn't pull it off. A single high quality game could have done it. If they couldn't even get me, the cheapest date they could possibly find, to buy the system....what does that mean for everyone else? This is going to be a disaster.

im kind of like you. i'm a sucker for 1 good game to purchase a console, and as much as i've hated on nintendo in the past, i'm still a fan of their traditional 1st party franchises. if they just showed 1 mario game that reminded me of how i felt when i saw mario 64 the first time (which probably will never happen to be honest, but a close feeling would be cool) i would have dropped $360 or whatever they are asking on day 1 for it.

but the reason i have hated on them is warranted, and it's because i've purchased every one of their consoles day 1, but ended up selling gamecube and wii shortly after due to lack of good games that came out.

however, few years down the road i re-purchased the console because over the years i didn't have one, their 1st party franchises came out and i want to play them. for the wii i wanted to play SMG2, NSMB, and DKCR. picked up a used wii for $80 after this past xmas.

i've pretty much purchased every console day 1 since i got a job when i was 14, and the N64 was the reason i got a job a month before it was out - to be able to buy it.

I can't tell you how much I'd love a new Mario game in the style of Mario 64. Favorite Mario game of all time for me. I was so disappointed to see yet another NSMB game, which should be limited to their handhelds IMO.

i thought NSMB was a really great idea for the wii personally. and im sure the new one will be a great game too. but it's just 'more of the same' whereas something different is what would entice me to purchase a new console. at least a graphics upgrade or something hah. and i'm not one to sit around a console and play a game locally with 5 people, so that feature does not entice me at all.

I can’t tell if this stuff is just that underwhelming or am I bitter.. I bought the GameCube (mostly for Resident Evil back when they claimed it was exclusive) and it sat there, waiting for Mario to show up. I kept thinking it’ll get better, Mario showed up and.. well while I did finish Sunshine I was left with a underwhelmed feeling. I bought the Wii, played Zelda on it and waited for Mario again, and it sat there. I kept thinking it’ll get better, this is revolutionary gameplay. Mario showed up, and while better, I couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed. I bought the Wii Fit, believing that maybe I can salvage this console into some kind of exercise platform, and because with every new peripheral I was told to I expect it to get better. It just never did, in fact it seemed to get worse. My old Dreamcast seem to have better game support than the Wii did. Now here we go again, Nintendo is pumping a new Wii (again without Mario) and telling me it’s going to get better. You combine that with MS taking everything the Wii is doing and doing it better (between Kinect and now SmartGlass), and I’ll pass. It’s very sad to see Nintendo going out like Sega did.

I felt that way when I saw SMG. When I saw metroid prime, wind waker, and f-zero GX. Its not that they can't still pull it off, even with their older franchises, as long as they reinvent it. Imagine if we saw a zelda that looked as good as the tech demo from last year. That would have blown minds. A metroid prime in full HD glory. A new mario game that looked like something from next gen, not from last gen. We saw absolutely none of that. It looked like old games and old ideas, even if they're quality mini-game collections or 2D marios....it just looked creatively bankrupt.

If they can't excite their biggest fans anymore, they need to hang it up.

I browsed around the internet and on almost every blog or forum except one (*cough* ign *cough*) there is this same sentiment. Nintendo really blew it with their presentation and lack of info about the new system. They focused on the controller and forgot to tell us what games we can expect at launch, how much it'll cost, and show us some of those 3rd party titles they were bragging about.

I'd have settled for a tech demo featuring Mario or Zelda or even Pokemon or something showing off the capabilities and say "this is what we can do with our new hardware".

I suspect at least part of the issue comes down to timing. All of the first generation games on a console are rushed and/or are ports. It takes 2+ years to fully develop a AAA game but the realities of console hardware development means there's no way developers can get that kind of time.

With the Wii Nintendo could quickly port over Zelda, but you had to wait another year for Super Mario Galaxy. I would expect something similar for the WiiU. Nintendo will give their staff a full development cycle to develop their AAA 1st party titles.

I don't think Nintendo *needed* to have an impressive presentation. I think everyone just wanted them to blow everyone out of the water and left very disappointed.

It won't be a disaster. It will be the same gimmicky stuff Nintendo has handed to the casuals on a plate and they will swallow it up. It will still be the highest selling console of this/next/the middle generation - or whatever you want to call it.

Just because they didn't appeal to you or anyone on *this* particular forum makes me think *you* all think you're special and can't open your minds enough to see that you aren't their #1 market.

yea the entire e3 nintendo conference was fail.

having to look down for a game is like having your gps on your lap while you are driving, its not a game mechanic bonus, its just retarded.

but what do i know the wii was retarded and it sold millions. unless folks are learning lessons these days, they've got the childrens market/gimmick market sewn up... credibility with the rest of the gaming community, not necessary.
